Ancient Mesopotamia Education

Introduction

Ancient Mesopotamia heavily influenced modern day America today. Ancient Mesopotamia was the first civilization to create a writing system. Making the writing system really did change the Sumerians lives by getting to record trade, crops and history. Students went to tablet school to learn to write on clay tablets with a piece of reed. Teachers in ancient Mesopotamia were tough on the students about getting a education. Cuneiform had 700 symbols! There were some rules about learning to write, like girls not being able to go to school. Without the Sumerians writing system it is uncertain where we would be today!

Writing

All of these photos represent the writing system created by the ancient mesopotamia civilization. History was recorded on clay tablets. Cuneiform was basically pictographs showing what they say.
