Curriculum Updates
Language Arts
Last week in Language Arts we read Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend about a boy who made a new friend when a new neighbor girl moved in on his street. We also learned about homophones. This week we are reading The Goat in the Rug which is a nonfiction narrative about a Navajo weaver. We are practicing suffixes and irregular verbs and will write comparison paragraphs.
Math
We are reviewing and finishing topic 10 this week which has been on addition of 3-digit numbers. We will also start topic 11. We will start by subtracting 10 and 100 then count back to subtract 3-digit numbers on an open number line. There will be no math homework this week.
Social Studies
Last week in social studies we learned how to be a good shopper and determined what things are needs and wants. We learned about buying what we need before what we want, saving receipts, and shopping for the best price. This week we are starting lesson nine which is about how communities change. We will identify the factors that cause a community to grow and change, explain the reasons communities get smaller, and discuss the changes we have seen in our own community. After break, the students will work in groups to fix up a community. They will have to decide if they want to fix a building or tear it down and then choose what to put in its place.
