MAP Assessment Information 2015-16
Measuring Academic Progress @ PA Leadership
A statement on what the MAP is...
The MAP test is not a high-stakes test or a national test. It is not a standardized test, like the PSSA or the Keystone. The purpose of the MAP test is to help us design the student's educational path - to enable us to offer an individualized learning path.
The MAP is an adaptive test. This means the test adapts to your student as he/she answers the questions. Easier or more challenging questions are provided for your student during the test, in order to pinpoint your child's performance level in reading and math. No matter what a student's performance level, ALL students will answer 50% of the questions correct and 50% of the questions incorrect on the MAP test.
Our teachers then use this information to design lessons, interventions and enrichment projects for students that meet their learning needs.
We are not sharing information with any state or national agency about student results. We are using the results to design an individualized path of instruction, which is in our mission statement and charter.
Why We Chose the MAP Tests...
It provides differentiation opportunities. Teachers will know exactly where students are in their academic progress, and have the tools for helping to address those who need interventions and those who can use enrichment.
It talks to other programs. Students' MAP data is used to write a prescription in Compass. It also has a bridge to Achieve 3000, helping teachers to target students' reading abilities.
It starts the conversation. When teachers, students and parents know a student's starting point, it's much easier to plot out the student's path to educational success. We will use the MAP testing data as a basis for Parent-Teacher conferences.
