Let us Remember
An Anzac Day event
Let us honor them
Can we possibly fathom the adversity that the ANZACs suffered through the several significant battles in Fromelles, Villers-Bretonneux and Gallipoli? Having to stay in trenches for a war that started because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the numerous long term causes like the Alliance System and the scramble for land, fighting for our freedom? Can we ever know what it would feel like to live in the possibility of never seeing your family again? Can we know the heartache their mothers suffered through waiting for their sons that may never come home? Can we imagine the sound of gunshots in the wind or the gunpowder residue in the air? We can not possibly imagine such terrible events. We can not do anything to change the past that could have been avoided, but we can do one thing. We can celebrate their bravery, their courageous actions for once growing country. We can show them that their actions made a difference to this nation, that what they have suffered through the war, was not all for naught. We can show them that they were significant to us, to all Australians, that they had a massive impact in shaping Australian identity and making Australia a known country to the rest of the world. And this is the purpose of this event, a lovely dinner to commemorate the fallen soldiers, perfect for a pivotal day like Anzac Day.
