New Principal's Message
June 1, 2017
A Note from Leslie Mitchell...
Hello Scullen Families!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself for the first time as the new principal of Scullen Middle School. It is truly an honor to serve as the instructional leader of such a great school!
District 204 has been my home since I was a student at Gregory Middle School. After graduating from Waubonsie Valley High School, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts from the University of Iowa, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University, and a certificate in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. I began my career at Crone Middle School in 2004 teaching 8th grade ELA and History. In 2009 I joined the inaugural staff at Fischer Middle School, and in 2012 I returned to Gregory as an Assistant Principal. I moved to Scullen last summer, also as an Assistant Principal, and throughout the course of this school year, I have completely fallen in love with the students and staff. I am thrilled to accept this next challenge in my career and am committed to serving the Scullen community.
My husband and I live in North Aurora with our two amazing kids, Natalie (8) and Johnny (7). As a working mom, knowing that they’re in loving and caring hands during the school day is truly a blessing. I want the Scullen parents to feel that same level of confidence. Providing a supportive environment where students experience academic and social growth is my priority, and I’ll work to achieve a balance of high expectations and rigor while still allowing kids to be kids. I will also express my gratitude to our teachers by consistently encouraging and supporting their hard work and dedication to students.
I’m excited to be a part of your child’s team - a team that includes teachers, parents, support staff, and administrators all working together towards one common goal - healthy kids. I will strive to make Scullen your child’s home away from home by embracing and celebrating differences and believing that we are family because I know it takes a village!
I hope that you will join me on August 8 from 5:30-7:30 for a meet and greet open house (formal invitation to follow). If we haven’t had the opportunity already, I’d love to meet you! I look forward to watching your children grow and thank you for sharing them with Scullen Middle School.
Sincerely,
Leslie Mitchell
