Talley Street Update
January 27, 2022
Dear Talley Street Community,
I hope everyone is having a great week! Talley Street was contacted this week by Dekalb County’s Department of Facilities and Maintenance. Their building has been undergoing renovation and is vacant. The renovations are complete and the building will be once again occupied. We have multiple parents who have been using their parking lot in the mornings and afternoons to walk their child to school. Dekalb County Facilities will begin towing vehicles. We want to be good neighbors so please stop using their lot.
Last week’s surveillance testing went very well. We were able to test over 150 students. If you haven’t signed up your child and wish to do so, please use the link below. You will need to complete the form for the school and also register with the testing company.
Talley’s lost and found is full again. All items need to be picked up by next Monday afternoon. Any items that are left will be donated.
Have a great afternoon!
Billy

For the next several weeks, all Talley Street students will participate in our iRUN program during their Physical Education class. We will be using warm-up time to practice pacing, breathing, and endurance training. The purpose of iRUN is:
to teach students the fundamentals of a lifetime skill that makes running/jogging/walking enjoyable and safe.
to train students to successfully participate in a one mile fun run.
At the end of iRUN, the Talley Street community is encouraged to support the Decatur Education Foundation’s Tour Decatur 1 mile fun run or 5k (Saturday, March 12th). Registration fees from this event are used to support City Schools of Decatur through the Decatur Education Foundation. DEF has several ways in which you can donate your time:
As a Virtual Pals tutor -- we need tutors to be paired with a 2nd- 8th grade Decatur student for a one-hour weekly session. Click here to apply: https://forms.gle/LoiZxoi6WvSe6WEr6
As a Virtual Pals Coordinator -- we need one person who checks in with the tutor pairs on a weekly basis. Time commitment is 1 hour per week. Email muslimo@decatureducationfoundation.org to apply.
As an AIM Mentor -- we need adult male and female mentors to be paired with a third grader to have new experiences and find their passions. The time commitment is just 2-4 hours per month.
