Fall Conference Schedule
Silverton High School will be conducting Fall Academic Conferences on November 21st and 22nd. There will be no school for students on those two days.
Conferences on November 21st will be by invitation and appointment only from 3:30-7:30pm. Staff will determine specific students and families they would like to connect with, and Office Staff will reach out to parents/guardians next week to begin scheduling appointments.
On November 22nd, teachers will be available for arena-style conferences from 12:00 - 7:30, with a break from 5:00-6:00 pm for our teachers to have dinner. These conferences will take place in the Main Gym and will be limited to 10 minutes with each teacher.
We encourage you to have your student attend conferences with you. This is a great opportunity to check in regarding concerns or struggles and focus on how best to support your student's growth.
Detailed information will be coming, so be on the lookout!
Ready for Class
Also, if your student has borrowed an extra Chromebook this year, please remind them that those need to be returned as soon as possible to the library.
Fun Fact: Not a big surprise, but is the day of the week with the most forgotten Chromebooks? Yes, it's Monday!
We have Amazing Teachers!
Mr. Scott Towery was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree at the 95th National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Honorary American FFA Degree is the highest honor bestowed on an individual. It is only awarded to agricultural teachers who have created high-quality agricultural education programs which inspire and motivate their students to strive for success. Mr. Towery has certainly done that and more!
Mr. Towery has been an Agriculture Science teacher at Silverton High School since 2006 and worked at Cascade School before joining SHS. During his time in Silverton, we have seen many Gold and Silver National Winners, along with Oregon State Champions and numerous conference and district champions. Silverton FFA has consistently brought home the blue banners!
FFA makes a positive difference in students' lives by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. FFA membership today is comprised of 735,038 student members who belong to one of 8,817 local FFA chapters throughout the United States. Over the past 27 years, Mr. Towery has taken 22 teams to the National competition, of which 20 were from Silverton High. Besides hosting the 2015 State FFA Convention at Silverton High School, Mr. Towery has had more than 80 students earn their Oregon State FFA Degree, 15 students have gone on to win the American Farmer FFA Degree, three students who served as State Officers, and in 2009 Carson States was the National Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking. Scott strongly acknowledges and credits Silverton's supportive FFA alumni, community, and eager students for the success.
Besides advising our FFA chapter with Mrs. Monica Baker, Mr. Towery teaches Agricultural Leadership, Basic Welding, Metal Art Welding, Advanced Welding and Fabrication 1 & 2. He is an NC3 Lincoln Electric Certified Instructor, and our students have a chance to become certified welders while still in high school. This is only because of his efforts to keep his skills at instructor levels and meet the national standards required.
"FFA provides the next generation of leaders who will change the world.." -- FFA Vision
Mr. Towery is making the FFA vision come to life daily at SHS. Thank you, Mr. Towery, for being an extraordinary, dedicated teacher who has taken the time to invest in our students' future success!
