Cheetah Chat
Cherrelyn Elementary School
April 17, 2019
Dear Cherrelyn Cheetah Families,
The events and decisions on Tuesday afternoon unfolded quite quickly, and I am proud of the way my staff and our community worked together to ensure students were safe and cared for at all times. It took only about 20 minutes to safely deliver all our students to their families, and this is due to your cooperation and understanding. When something like this happens, it is a reminder that our Cherrelyn families are the best. On behalf of myself and the whole staff, we say THANK YOU!
We will resume school as normal tomorrow, including CMAS testing. Although there is no longer a threat to the community, we will have an increased safety presence at drop off and pick up and more supervision at recess. Student safety continues to be our greatest priority. We will also work closely with Englewood Police to ensure that our students return to school feeling safe tomorrow, and families feel confident sending their students to school.
If you need support speaking with your child, Superintendent Dr. Wendy Rubin, shared this resource from the National Mental Health Association. Developmentally appropriate strategies for students of all ages are available in this resource and this graphic, both of which were developed by the National Association of School Psychologists.
We love our students, so please be reminded of some of our school safety procedures. Students should only enter the school through the doors on Tufts from 7:30 am-7:45 am, after that time please go to the main office doors on S. Fox St. Please use the Hug and Go Lane ONLY to quickly drop students off, and pull all the way forward. If your child needs help getting out of the car, please park further up by the classrooms or across the street and walk children to the doors. At all times, families and visitor are required to check in at the front office. We love to have families volunteer or participate in school activities, and this allows us to keep the school safe.
I look forward to welcoming our students back to school tomorrow. It is always a great day to be a CHEETAH!
Warm Regards,
Rebecca Orsund, Principal
