A Message from our Principal...
Dear Jefferson Families;
Happy October 1st! I hope that you are enjoying this beautiful weather as much as we are! Fall is such a terrific time of year, and very much a favorite time for us at school. While the curriculum becomes more challenging, students have settled into school routines and are able to work steadily towards mastering learning targets. I’ve visited every classroom and can tell you that students are eager learners practicing new skills and applying new strategies in all their subjects. The reward for all this hard work going on inside are the twice daily recesses outside in such beautiful weather.
This is the time of year where students and their teachers check in with parents and guardians about their progress. Next week we host all important student-led conferences. Parents/guardians may choose to come in person to school or to have zoom conferences. Either way, students will be leading the conversations; sharing their progress, stating their goals, and communicating their plan for meeting goals. Student-led conferences are a critical piece in developing student responsibility and in taking ownership of their learning. We are hopeful that students will go beyond naming a particular grade or score on a test. We encourage them to think deeply about something that they really need to improve upon and to create a plan to achieve that goal. For example, if being able to read silently for a sustained period of time would help them most, then they would create a plan to increase their reading time by a few minutes each day and track their progress. If they are late to school every day, they might create a plan to be on time two times the first week, three the next, etc. Student-led conferences give students an opportunity to demonstrate how they take charge of their learning.
We are very excited to have parents/guardians come to school and share learning experiences with their children and us. If you have any questions about conferences, please contact your child’s homeroom teachers as soon as you can.
Please keep in touch with us. We are partners in your child’s education and we value any and all feedback to help us to do our best.
Wishing you a wonderful autumn.
Most sincerely,
Dr. Judy Floeter, Principal

What is MTSS?
What does it look like at Jefferson Elementary?
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework that promotes school improvement through evidence-based academic and behavioral practices to improve outcomes for all students. Students are unique and learn in different ways and at different speeds, therefore, varying levels of support are provided to ensure that every student receives the time and support needed to learn at high levels. The MTSS team at Jefferson Elementary uses a data-driven problem-solving approach to maximize growth and achievement for all students.
At Jefferson Elementary School, students are acknowledged and reinforced for their academic and behavioral successes in a variety of ways. Students earn individual Bee Bucks, classroom Bee Bucks, and Shout-Outs. We believe it is important to celebrate these successes to increase motivation and promote a growth mindset.
