Mt. Carmel Elementary School
January 2019
Welcome Back!
Happy New Year, and welcome back to the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year at Mt. Carmel Elementary School! We had a great first semester, and we are looking forward to new opportunities for academic and social development for all of our students. The semester will go quickly, so let's make a New Year's resolution to stay committed to regular attendance and reading time at home. These two things give your student the best possible chance to be successful in school. Thank you for your continued support!
Strong performance on state report card!
Mt. Carmel Elementary earned a grade of 97 / A on the state report card! That's the second highest score in Madison County. Thank you, teachers and students, for your hard work! The grade is based on school achievement and growth on the state assessment as well as attendance. Also, we must thank the parents of Mt. Carmel for supporting regular school attendance and daily reading at home. Student success is a team effort, so let's keep up the great teamwork!
Student Report Cards
Report cards will be sent home January 8th.
January is National School Board Recognition Month
Madison County Board of Education members work diligently to provide a first-rate education for our students. Mt. Carmel appreciates our board's dedication and hard work. Thank you, Angie Bates, Nathan Curry, Shere Rucker, Mary Louise Stowe, and Dave Weis.
Gingerbread Man STEM Challenge
Second graders created a raft for their gingerbread man and tested their designs in the stream in the courtyard. They also designed and made a bridge for the gingerbread man to cross over the river and made a hideout for him.
Project Lead the Way
Our Project Lead the Way grant provides students with valuable STEM learning experiences. Students participate in engaging labs that encourage creative and critical thinking, build teamwork skills, and teach resilience in the face of challenges- very important 21st century skills!
First graders learned about the purposes of different kinds of bird beaks.
