Death of Marilyn Monroe
June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962
Background Information
Pop Culture icon Marilyn Monroe was a famous actress and model. On August 5, 1962 (age 32) in Los Angeles, California, USA, Marilyn died from what it seem to be a drug overdose. She was saw as a "sex symbol" in the 1950s. (Biography.com editors, 1, 2012)
Medias Perspective
Mrs. June Wood from the article "Marilyn Monroe -- How she died", talks about her perspective on the death. Her idea is that it had something to with the Kennedy's. People say she was a total threat to the Kennedy's dynasty. Statements show that Monroe knew something about the Kennedy's and they didn't want her to leak the truth to the pubic.
Medias Perspective (two)
Media is stating that it was not at all a suicide. Media discovered that Monroe had suffered from extreme depression disorder. She had previously went to the doctor a few weeks prior to her death. The medias perspective on this matter is that the doctor purposely gave her the wrong type of medicine. The doctor has a tie with the Kennedys as well and it plays a role in the same idea in the paragraph above.
Medias Bias
Media states that her death came out of no where. She suffered from extreme depression and no one actually thinks her death was from suicide. The media is bias toward the Kennedy's. A lot of people say that the Kennedy's had drugged her because supposedly Marilyn had a secret affair with President John F. Kennedy and then later one an affair with his brother Robert F. Kennedy. The brothers wanted to seek revenge and not allow the secret to spill to the public. (Vutaggio, 3, 2015).
Feminist criticism
A lot of people criticized Monroe for her inappropriate pictures. Monroe posed for male gaze. She was in a public modeling shoot one night and her skirt kept blowing up. Every time it would blow up the crowd would go wild. She expressed herself that way for the people who mistreated her: her parents for abandoning her; foster parents for abusing her; or even her husband who physically abused her. The list could go on and on. They saw that as she doesn't respect herself. She became the centerfold for the first issue of "playboy" in 1953. No one respected her for that. (Banner, 4, 2012)
marxist Criticism
People saw her as the top-billed actress in 1950. Her films grossed $200 million by the time of her unexpected death in 1962. She remains a huge pop culture icon for her amazing modeling and great acting skills playing the ''dumb blonde". She signed a new contract with Fox in 1951 and instantly got famous after that. She had high connections with the Kennedy's and a short time before her death the Kennedys lawyer was at her house talking to her about the issue regarding the affairs. (Banner, 10, 2012)
