Dear Sustainability Community,
I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with such a tenacious and inspiring group of people. Together we have made such a huge difference for our students. After a LOT of soul searching, I discovered that it is time for me to take the next step in professional growth. I have accepted a new position with Arapahoe Community College as the Director of the Bachelor of Applied Science and I will be leaving DCSD soon to take on this new adventure!
The momentum for sustainability is strong because of you: environmental education, food rescue, share tables, energy competitions, chicken coops, and truly innovative programs have taken off. We have award winning teachers and programs, state and national recognition for our work, and outstanding financial savings and reduced environmental impact. When my son starts kindergarten at DCSD in 2019, you will definitely see me greening up my local school :)
Thank you all for your commitment to inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards. I am excited to see where you take it from here!
Sincerely,
Courtney Kuntz
Heather Berry, Certified Master Environmental Educator
In order to achieve certification, participants completed an extensive portfolio that was assessed by a peer review panel. Applicants were required to demonstrate understanding and skill in environmental literacy, foundations of environmental education, professional responsibilities, planning and implementation, and assessment and evaluation. The panel was thoroughly impressed with the level of knowledge, skill, and professionalism demonstrated throughout Heather's work in environmental education.
Heather teaches AP Environmental Science at Highlands Ranch High School and is a 2017 Apple Award Winner as the Secondary Teacher of the Year. She also serves on the DCSD Sustainability Steering Committee and received the 2016 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators, among so many other awesome achievements. She is also just generally amazing. Great work, Heather!
