Hi Buckalew Bears! I'm Mrs. Points, your school counselor. With each Buzz, I will have resources to support the social and emotional learning of our students. If your family has a specific need you would like to contact me about, please don't hesitate to email me at kpoints@conroeisd.net.

April's Character Trait; Honesty

This month, our focus shifts to the character trait of honesty. Why be honest when you can fulfill a need or deflect blame by telling a lie? Well, according to Notre Dame researchers Anita E. Kelly PhD and Lijuan Wang PhD, honesty has proven mental and physical benefits. Some benefits of honesty found in their study included less tension, less feelings of melancholy, less headaches, and less sore throats. Wow! With mental and physical health benefits such as these, let's practice honesty and teach our children this important practice, as well.

Counseling Helps Us G-R-O-W!!!

New groups are forming this month and will begin meeting the week of April 19th. Each group meets once a week for five weeks. On-campus learners meet during lunch, and virtual learners meet at various times depending on their class Zoom schedule.

Our topics include dealing with BIG emotions (fear, anger, frustration, sadness), having a growth mindset, coping skills, and character traits such as perseverance, honesty, kindness, and gratitude. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at kpoints@conroeisd.net.

The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, April 14th. If your child is currently in a group, he/she will go on a waiting list to allow other students the first opportunity to join. If spots are available, I would be very happy to fill those spots with current group members on a first come, first serve basis. Thank you so much for your understanding. -Mrs. Points

From our Police Department:

A few friendly reminders in regards to school zone safety and car rider drop off safety:

  • Please remember to remind your children NOT to cross until the crossing guards are at their posts in the morning. The building is not open until 7:30.
  • Please remember if you are in your car, to wait for the crossing guards not only to cross the children, but for the crossing guards themselves to make it back to the sidewalk.
  • Please remember to stay off your cell phones when driving in school zones.
  • Please remember their are NO DOGS allowed on school property. This is for your personal liability and the safety of all of our students.
  • Please remember there are no U-Turns in front of the school.
  • Lakeside Park- if you are dropping your kids off or picking them up from Lakeside Park please park your vehicle to do so. It becomes a safety issue to just drive up and let your kids out or have them get in without parking. Please use our car line in the back of Buckalew if you want just drop off your child.

Visiting the School

While at a Level 3 in CISD, parents are not allowed in the building. We now have added 3 reserved parking spaces for our parents if they do need something from the school. We ask that you park in one of the 3 reserved spaces and call the number rather than walk up to the door. This will maintain safety on a variety of levels.
