A message from Mr. Finkle!
I trust that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. I can't believe that the leaves are off the trees and I see snow in the forcast for tomorrow. I hope that everyone has their shovels and snow throwers ready to roll.
Things have been great here at DHS as the fall season ended and winter sports are in full swing. If you want to view all basketball games and wrestling matches from the comfort of your own home or if Aunt Beatrice in Florida wishes to watch, sign up for the Pixellot service. We have partnered with the NFHS Network to provide live streaming of every home game in the main gym. The contests are also archived for viewing at a later date as well. For a monthly fee of $9.99, you can watch every game from your computer or smart TV. For $40, you can receive the entire winter season plus several high profile games during the spring season. Go to www.nfhsnetwork.com and log into the DElran webpage for subscription information.
Also, if you are brave, come on out to the teacher talent show on Thursday December 21st at 8:00 to see our amazing faculty show off their many talents. It will certainly be an experience. Tickets will be $5 and will benefit a family in need during the holiday season.
And now some information on the educational front:
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) is in the final phase of the state-required procurement process for the new science assessments that will be administered this school year. The NJDOE expects the procurement process to be finalized in the coming weeks, at which time they will release detailed information and guidance on the new science assessments.
Here is what we know so far:
- The new science assessments will be administered in Spring 2018 and will be aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science.
- This test replaces the New Jersey Biology Competency Test which we have given over the past several years.
- The new science assessments will be computer-based tests.
- The science assessments will be administered in grades 5, 8 and 11.
- The Grade 11 high school assessment will be a comprehensive science assessment rather than an end-of-course high school biology assessment.
I will continue to keep all parents, teachers and students updated on new information provided by the New Jersey Department of Education as we receive it.
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or 856-461-6100 x3005.
Athletic News
The Delran Winter 2017-2018 season has already begun with much success. The Boys’ Bowling team is 3-0. The Girls’ Bowling team won their first match of the season against Doane Academy. Keep up the great work bowlers! The Delran Swim team is 2-0 after convincing wins against NBC and Pemberton. Opening day for basketball is December 15th. Boys’ Basketball is away at NBC, girls’ basketball is home. Wrestling will open the season at the Pine Barrens tournament hosted by Shawnee High School on December 16th. The teams have worked hard during the preseason and they are ready to make us proud.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: if your child wishes to participate in an interscholastic sport, he/she must have a valid physical. Once a new physical is complete, please do not hold onto it. Pleaes turn the physical into Mr. Guidotti or Ms. Jordan so that it can be forwarded to our school physician for approval. Please make sure that all information on the physical and health history forms are filled out completely and accurately. In addition, a student may not participate in a sport unless the ATS portal has been completed. Directions on how to complete ATS can be found on Mr. Caplin’s teacher page.
The Delran Athletic Department hopes that everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year. GO BEARS!!!

November Students of the Month
Luke was nominated for November "Student of the Month"...here is a little of what Mr. Puglia had to say. "Luke shows what it means to have compassion, empathy and leadership qualities. While these characteristics show throughout the school day, the times that touched my heart were on the field. There were several times that Luke went above and beyond to include players during football practice." "Luke is the definition of integrity. He does the right thing even when no one is looking."
Isabelly Silva nominated by Mrs. Holmes-Garrity:
Isabelly was nominated for November "Student of the Month"...here is a little of what Mrs. Holmes-Garrity had to say. "Isabelly has been a pleasure to teach since she enrolled in DHS in April, 2016. She is bright, calm, motivated, hardworking, and helpful. She has learned English quickly as well and is excelling in a mainstream English class after only a little more than one year in the U.S. She is an example to anyone in ESL and beyond."
Alumni Walk
Alumni Walk Update- We are paving the way to celebrate Bear Pride! The latest pavers were installed last week along with the an Inlay from the Class of 2016! The Advisors from the Class of 2017 are working on their inlay design. We are very hopeful this year’s Senior Class will buy a brick and cast their permanent legacy on DHS. It looks like we have established a new tradition of not only allowing a platform for individuals, but also each graduating class as a whole, to leave their mark. Please consider purchasing a brick in order to pave the entire walkway. The link for purchasing a brick is below. We would also like to acknowledge the work of Best Cut Lawn-care and Landscaping for installing our bricks. They have donated their time and talents to DHS and provided their work free of charge. Thanks you Phil Velo and Best Cut.
