Jensen J-Hawk Weekly Bulletin
January 7-11th
A Note from Mrs. Cole
I hope the two week break provided everybody to have the opportunity to slow down and spend time with friends and family that you love.
We are so excited to start back to school on Monday, January 7th. We will continue to focus on being superheroes-- Helping Each other Reach Our dreams!). Being a superhero means that we will continue to focus on teaching students how to use their superpowers of being respectful, responsible, safe, and kind learners across many settings in the building. Students will be retaught the expectations for the bathrooms, hallways, lunchroom, playground, and classroom within the first few days back to school. Additionally, staff will continue to reinforce and reward students for their great choices through leadership tickets.
My favorite quote (pictured above) is that a new year brings with it 365 new opportunities!
At Jensen we continue to BELIEVE that all students can and will be successful; LEAD through example and provide high quality instruction; and ENCOURAGE students to do their very best by building positive relationships with students and families!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Michelle Cole
Congratulations SuperHEROes!
Happy New Year from your School Counselor
I have been having the most amazing time working with your students at Jensen this year as their School Counselor. This school year in “Guidance” we have been working on something brand new to the Urbandale District, and I wanted to take this opportunity to share with all of you parents what we have been working on. Second Step is a curriculum that focuses primarily on social and emotional learning (kindness, compassion, empathy, feelings recognition, and problem solving skills). As a parent you have access to every aspect of this curriculum through my website.

On this website you will find information about myself as the School Counselor, what I do at Jensen, pictures from around Jensen, the superhero winners each week, and all the information about the Second Step Curriculum. I have provided links to the second step website, posters, home links (opportunities for you and your child to continue the conversation, and practice the material at home). I have provided each topic we are covering in class, and there is even a code for you to put in on the second step website as a parent to have access to more material. I believe it is so important to be transparent and let you all know what we are working on. Please visit my website and check it out. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns
