Music with Mr. DeStefano and Mrs. A. Williams
It has been a wonderful Music In Our Schools Month so far! CCES Kindergarteners presented their annual Bremen Town Musicians concert on Tuesday, March 7th. Their singing charmed the audience. Several of our chorus students participated in the Fulton County Choral Clinic on Saturday, March 10th. They spent the day learning songs from three Fulton County Schools music teachers and then put on a concert for family and friends in the afternoon. Also, several of our Orff Ensemble students participated in Play the Recorder Day on Saturday, March 17th. They played beautifully and got to see other recorder and early music group performers. See pictures from these events below. We have two more performances this month. Our Chorus students will be singing the Star Spangled Banner at the Georgia Swarm Lacrosse game on Saturday, March 24th and our Third graders will present their concert "All the Colors" on Tuesday, March 27th. We hope to see you there.
Art with Mrs. Steffensen and Mrs. S. Miller
Our Colt Artists have been busy creating sculptures. Kindergarten, First and Second Grades have used paper in new and interesting ways, turning a two dimensional material into three dimensional forms. A collaborative Kindergarten cylinder sculpture is pictured here. Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades are completing their study of clay and the many techniques needed to work with this material and create the form of their choice.
The Youth Art Month celebration continues with CCES staff spending some of our Release Day (without students) in the Art Room creating tie dye fabrics with indigo dye. Each result was uniquely wonderful. See the proud artists pictured here.
This spring brings us into our study of craft. One of our favorite times of year, our students will be busy stitching and weaving. As always, it is a pleasure to spend time with your children! Have a safe and restful spring break.
Physical Education with Mr. Abel and Mr. Sylvester
February was an awesome month in Phys Ed because we focused on our HEART health. We talked about the important function of the heart and how it carries oxygen to our working muscles. Thank you to those families who raised donations for our Jump Rope for Heart program. We raised close to $7,000.00 to support the American Heart Association.
March is National Nutrition Month. We will discuss how good nutrition is vital in keeping our body healthy. We will play several nutrition activity games in class this month.
Nutrition Tips for your student:
- Try to make sure his/her school lunches also are healthy. Consider packing meat and cheese sandwiches, cheese sticks, fruit, cut-up vegetables, yogurt, crackers, etc. Also be sure to limit juices and soft drinks and encourage water and milk.
- Setting a good example yourself will make it easier to encourage and establish good, healthy eating habits.
- Encourage healthy after-school snacks like fruit, veggies and low-fat dip, graham crackers and peanut butter, cheese and crackers, etc.
- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast helps jump-start digestion and metabolism.
Thank you for always encouraging your wonderful students to be active and healthy.
