PLEASE NOTE A SLIGHT CHANGE:

Due to maintenance in the gym, Bulldog Night for grades 1-6 has been moved

to the parking lot behind the gym. PTO concession will be under the pavilion.

We are looking forward to Bulldog Night on Monday! I hope everyone received their welcome postcards in the mail. Now, you have a chance to meet the teacher in person, drop off supplies, join PTO, sign up for after-school care and more! There will be no whole group session. The event is come-and-go. The activities will begin at 5:00 and teachers will be available from 6:00-7:00.

Car-Rider Tags Required for Every Vehicle

Car-rider tags help us keep your children safe, and that is our first priority! WGS is a close-knit community and most teachers recognize our parents/guardians and even call them by name, but sometimes there are custody changes that the staff is unaware of. That is why the car tag system is in place:

  • The car tag issued by WGS serves as your ID to pick a student up.
  • Hand-written tags are not accepted
  • Vehicles without tags will be stopped for ID check or directed to park and go to the lobby for verification.
  • If you give your tag to a friend or family member, you are giving that person permission to pick up your child.
  • One tag per student is provided for free. Additional tags may be purchased through your teacher or at the front office for $2.
  • Tags for new students may be picked up from your teacher on Bulldog night or given out in the line on the first day. Be prepared to show ID.
  • Returning students will use their tags from last year.

Please be kind to our teachers on duty if they ask for identification. They are simply following our plan to keep our children safe!

Walking Students to Class

Pre-K and Kindergarten parents are invited to walk their children to class on the phase-in day and on the first full day. After that, we ask that you drop them off in the car line, as normal, so we can start developing daily routines and fostering independence. They are in good hands!

A Reminder About Breakfast

Class starts promptly at 7:45 so it's necessary to end breakfast at 7:35 to give students time to eat and report to their classrooms. If you plan for your child to eat in the lunchroom, please make sure they are here by 7:30.

Learning Never Stops!

Did you know that teachers must attend professional development sessions every year in order to maintain their certificate? Madison County Schools provides time at the beginning of each year for staff development. This year, the focus was on meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of every student. The entire school system gathered for Ignite 2019, our teachers led local sessions at our school, and we collaborated with our friends at Moores Mill Intermediate with a national presenter. MCSS teachers stay current on what's best for kids!

Arrival - Doors open for students at 7:15 am. Please do not drop students off before this time because there is no supervision and it becomes a safety issue. Students arriving after 7:45 am will be counted tardy.

Transportation Changes: If there will be any change to the method of regular afternoon transportation for a student, parents must notify the teacher in writing of this change. If the communication is through email, it must be received by 1:30 pm. We will no longer accept transportation changes by phone.

Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - If a student is to ride another bus or get off at a different spot on any given day, the school requires a note be signed from the parent, which includes a current phone number at which the parent can be contacted if needed. Students should present the note to the homeroom teacher for verification. The note will be returned to the student and he/she will be responsible for giving the signed note to the bus driver.
