Winter Weather Reminder:
Morning Drop Off
As the cold weather moves in, the morning drop off traffic increases! To help avoid the traffic, please consider these two options:
- Dropping off before 7:30am. Students can immediately enter through the gym door in the front and wait with teachers and their grade level for the 7:30am bell to ring. There is much less traffic at 7:20am!
- Using the additional drop off lane in the South side parking lot. This is open to all students. Teachers and student greeters will be there to welcome students every morning!
What Are We Learning?
Math
Standard from is 37
Expanded notation is 30+7=37
We will also be exploring place value and how there are multiple ways to represent a number.
For example, 37 can be 3 tens and 7 ones. It can also be 2 tens and 17 ones. By understanding this they will be able to regroup number to add and subtract and understand the why behind regrouping.
Language Arts/ Social Studies
This week in language arts we have been main idea and details. We are also exploring prepositional phrases. Next week will be exploring non-fiction text features (table of contents, captions, index, photographs, etc...).
Since we are celebrating our 100th day of school this week, students will be brainstorming and writing about all of the things they think they will do, wear, eat, and say when they are 100 years old.
In social studies, we are beginning to learn more about different influential characters in our history, such as Abraham Lincoln, and Eleanor Roosevelt. We will be studying these important figures for the next couple of weeks.
Science
We are deep into our science unit on space. We are learning about:
identify characteristics of day and night
observe and record changes in the appearance of stars
observe and collect data about changes in the appearance of moon
characteristics of the seasons of the year.
This unit will conclude with the students creating a "Space Museum" to show what they have learned.
