SCHOOL NEWS
TESTS SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONDAY, FEB. 8TH
MAP TESTING - ALL STUDENTS
FWS will be conducting mandatory, online MAP reading testing on February 8. Students will receive information about the time of their test and obtain codes to log into their testing site from their English teachers.
ACCESS TESTING - ENGLISH LEARNER (EL) STUDENTS
This testing is for FWS EL students only and will take place in person at FWS on February 8 from 8:30am-12:30pm. Students should bring a fully charged chromebook and charger. Parents of EL students have been notified of transportation details via email. If you have any questions, call the main office at 571-252-2320.
UPCOMING TESTS

SOL WRITING TESTING - ALL 8TH GRADE STUDENTS
This testing will take place in person at FWS on March 1 and 8 for all 8th graders (includes all Distance Learner and Hybrid students). More details will be coming soon.
HYBRID STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL
March 3 - FWS has 315 students set to return to school as hybrid learners starting March 3. Students will return 2 days a week, either Tues/Wed or Thurs/Fri.

Log in to ParentVUE to see which 2 days your hybrid student will return to school. Transportation information will be available in ParentVUE soon - prior to the hybrid return date.
February 26 - Designated as an asynchronous learning day for students in Grades 6 - 12 so teachers can make final preparations to their classrooms for hybrid learning to begin.
March 2 - Note that this is a Student Holiday and Staff Professional Development Day.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
We honor the history and achievements of Black Americans at FWS through a variety of Advisory lessons. A video of these lessons will be shared in a FWS newsletter at the end of February.
PTA MEETING IS TUESDAY
RISING GRADE INFORMATION

Note that students have now chosen their electives for the next school year. You can view them in ParentVUE and make any changes from February 6 to 26.
CONGRATS!
- Congratulations to Mitali Srivastava, an FWS 8th grader. She is a guitarist who performed at a Saturday morning Master Class for Arabesque - a professional guitar duo. They gave excellent feedback on her performance and were impressed with her musicality. Well done, Mitali!

Curbside Pick Up:
Mondays 7:30am to 4:00pm
Wednesdays 8:30am to 3:30pm
Thursdays 8:30am to 3:30pm
In addition to books, students can also request our February maker kit which includes instructions and paper to make origami heart bookmarks. To request a book and/or maker kit, fill out this request form.
Library Books can be returned Monday - Friday to the Book Return bin outside the FWS front door.
SPIRIT NIGHT IS FEBRUARY 16
- Our next FWS Spirit Night is actually an all day event. Please consider dropping by Famous Toastery (43780 Central Station Dr., Ste. 150 in Ashburn) between 7am to 7pm for a tasty meal on Tuesday, February 16. Dine in or Carry out. Proceeds will be donated to FWS!

CAMPUS PROGRAM FOR 8TH GRADERS
- The CAMPUS program is a high school college access program design to remove barriers and/or meet the specific needs of first generation college bound students attending LCPS. Students may apply in the spring of their 8th grade year.

LCPS SOFTBALL IS HERE!
- Registration for the Loudoun County Middle School Softball Program is now open. Tryouts will be held in February. Games are expected to begin after spring break and continue through Memorial Day. If interested, click HERE for more information.
THOMAS JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2025
- If you are an 8th grader interested in attending the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJSST) next year, their application window is open from February 1 at 8:00am to February 26 at 4:00pm. More information about the application process can be found HERE.

REQUIRED TO ENTER LCPS SCHOOLS
- LCPS requires that everyone complete the Covid-19 Symptom Checker before entering a LCPS school building.
- There is a QR code to access the Symptom Checker on the front door of FWS. Or you can access the QR code and link to the Questionnaire on our main webpage.
FREE LCPS MEALS
WALK-UP SERVICE
- Meals can be picked up at FWS on Mondays through Fridays from 10:30am to 2:30pm at the B-3 entrance.
BUS STOP PICK-UP SERVICE
- Bus stop deliveries will be on Mondays only with all meals (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner) for the week being delivered on Mondays. Families can find their nearest bus stop and delivery time by using the Interactive Map. Note that Monday, February 15 is a holiday. That week's meals will be delivered on Tuesday, February 16.
