Lunch Corner

Dallas ISD is cancelling curbside meal distribution for Friday, Feb. 19, due to unsafe conditions related to this week’s inclement weather and the inability to receive food orders from vendors. Tentative plans call for limited curbside meal service on Monday, Feb. 22, and a return to normal curbside meal service on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The exact meal pickup locations will be announced after staff assesses the condition of the facilities. Please stay tuned to the Dallas ISD website and social media channels for updates.

Recovery Efforts

City of Dallas residents and business owners who sustained February Winter storm damage may apply for assistance by registering at: www.disasterassistance.gov or calling 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585.

Office of Emergency Management (OEM)

OEM is opening four water distribution sites Sunday, February 21 thru Tuesday, February 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help our residents experiencing broken pipes and shut off water. These will be contactless, drive through sites providing one case of water per vehicle. Emergency bottled water distribution is to assist residents living on premises without water due to needed building repairs.

Bulk Water Pick Up Program
Starting Monday, February 22, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Dallas residents will be able to come to any of the City of Dallas-run Park and Recreation warming stations to fill water containers up to 15 gallons per visit. Residents are requested to bring their own containers. No ID required.

Residents should bring their containers to the center and staff will assist in filling the containers.

African American Read-In - Friday, February 26, 2021

This year the Dallas ISD African American Read-In will take place virtually. The event will highlight Black authors, promote diversity in literature, and encourage young people to read. It will be the culminating event to celebrate Black History Month. This year students will hear from renowned African American authors such as Nic Stone, the author of Dear Martin, Derrick Barnes, the author of Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, and many more! Students will also enjoy artistic performances by Dallas ISD students, staff, and community partners. Visit bit.ly/DISD-AARI-2021 to register for the event.

UNITED WAY READING DAY - BOOK DRIVE (March)

Did you know that students who read on grade level by 3rd grade are 5 times more likely to graduate high school ready for success in college or career? You can play an important role in inspiring North Texas students to love reading and learning, setting them up for success in school and in life!

United way is hosting a book drive at our school. If you have gently used (or brand new) books you'd like to donate please bring them throughout the month of March. (March 1-31st - 4th floor 8am-3:15pm or drop off time 7:15-7:45am - Elm St.) Thank you!
