Vision: Academic Excellence and Success
From Mr. R's Desk
This week I want to re-emphasize our Rio Hondo ISD Belief Statements...
- Each student should have the opportunity to succeed according to their own potential.
- Children are eager to learn given a positive climate, engaging materials, & exceptional mentors.
- It takes the efforts of our entire community to educate a child.
Homework Guide for Teachers
Homework Should...
- be developmentally appropriate so that it can be completed independently.
- consolidate classroom learning, either through specific activities or through project-based learning.
- address learning needs among well designed learning activities.
- be timed, planned, coordinated, and monitored by teacher.
- encourage students to contribute positively to their communities.
- encourage and support reflection by students on their learning preferences, achievements, and goals.
- facilitate communication between the home and school in support of student success.
- accommodate students’ out-of-school schedules [athletics, band, etc].
Homework Should NOT...
- create inequity or otherwise disadvantage students’ learning success due to time or resources available within the family to complete homework tasks.
- exceed the recommended time limits.
- create an economic burden for families.
- be used to discipline or punish a student.
- assess a student’s learning without reference to prior work.

Red Ribbon Week pays tribute to DEA Agent Kiki Camarena
The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign. NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign™. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America.

Tweet of the Week
If you are needing students to think at a deep level, you need to design a learning experience to get them to those levels. Are your learning experiences pushing kids to the thinking levels you need them to achieve? @Mann4Edu
