Weekly Updates and Reminders
*The last day to notify Mrs. Miller of your interest in drivers ed is this Monday. Drivers Ed will be offered from Sept. 5th until Sept. 21 Monday-Thursday, from 4:15-7:15. Students who take the course must attend all sessions, have a copy of their birth certificate, and pay a $60 fee to the NC Driving School.
*This year, our leaders who are 16 and older will have the opportunity to earn volunteer hours by volunteering to help in the Innovation concession stand at the ECU football games. ECU will email a consent waiver to the parents of those students who have shown interest in volunteering. This waiver must be completed before students volunteer. Leaders will receive double volunteer hours for volunteering at concession games.
*Please be advised that students are required to attend school and cannot miss more than ten days in a course. Once a leader misses 11 or more days, they fail the course unless they attend attendance make-up sessions at the semester's end. According to Pitt County policy, parents will receive a phone call or an attendance letter once students have missed 3, 6, or 9 days, regardless of whether the days are excused or unexcused. This notification is to alert parents about their leader’s attendance. Notes for missed days must be brought to school within five days of the absence.
Upcoming Events
*There will be no IECHS or ECU courses on Monday, Sept. 4th.
*Our Honors Earth Science leaders will take a field trip next Thursday, Sept. 7th. Signed filed trip forms must be returned to Mrs. Higgins as soon as possible.

The Gates Scholarship: This prestigious scholarship program is based on evidence that by eliminating the financial barriers to college, a last-dollar scholarship can enable high-potential, low-income minority students to excel in their coursework, graduate college, and continue to be leaders throughout their lives. In addition to funding, The Gates Scholarship will provide further support to Scholars, by engaging with them and their institutions in a variety of ways, to ensure they have access to the resources and services they need, from their first to last day of classes, through graduation and the transition to their chosen careers.
