Three Weeks Down!

School started three weeks ago already on August 18th. It's hard to believe how fast the time is flying. Each day we strive to make Shell Creek a place "Where We All Learn to Succeed!"

This Week's News

6th Grade

The 6th graders completed a keyboard assessment to evaluate how well they remember the keys on the keyboard. If you don't know where the letters are on the keyboard, it's harder to type without "hen pecking." Additionally, the classes started their new typing program, Ultimate Typing. This program is designed to continue building the typing skills these students have begun thus far.

5th Grade

The 5th graders also completed a keyboard assessment to evaluate how well they remember the keys on the keyboard. They began their typing program, All the Right Type. The students are excited to complete all 87 lessons over the course of this first semester.

4th Grade

The 4th graders completed their first keyboard assessment to evaluate how well they remember the keys on the keyboard. They will complete this assessment again at the end of the first and second semesters. They also began their typing program, Type to Learn 4. As this program is a repeat from 3rd grade, it was great to see a number of students skip lessons based upon terrific pre-test scores.

3rd Grade

The 3rd graders were able to start their typing program, Type to Learn 4, this week. These "recruits" accepted the mission to improve their typing this semester so that begin using the Microsoft Suite next semester.

2nd Grade

The 2nd graders began the process of logging into their accounts so that they could begin using the Read, Write & Type program. These students are ready to take on Vexor and save their "key" friends.

1st Grade

This is a big week for the 1st graders as they were learning how to log into their own accounts on the computer instead of using one for the whole class as they did in Kindergarten. They began reviewing the short vowel sounds using the Starfall website.

Kindergarten

The Kindergarteners were so excited to learn how to log in and off the computer this week. They also learned how to open a web browser (Safari) and how to quit it properly. These basic computer skills will be used on a daily basis throughout the school year, and they're off to a great start!
