Advanced GR PD
Have you ever found yourself saying any of these?
"My high groups are so advanced, I don't have anything to teach them.”
"My advanced readers basically teach themselves.”
"I'm really not sure how to push my advanced readers!”
If you've said any of these, you're not alone...teaching Advanced Readers can be difficult! However, they cannot teach themselves. This workshop will focus specifically on our readers in text levels T-Z. You'll leave with ideas you can implement the next day.
PLUS…
To sweeten the pot, the first 3 people to register for each of the sessions via My Learning Plan will receive a The Reading Strategies Book (Jennifer Seravallo) FREE. We will give away 3 additional copies to random participants at each workshop. Registration opens Tuesday January 11.
Points Possible: 2 or 10!
Attendance at the workshop is worth 2 points. However, participants will have an opportunity to submit a video of an Advanced Guided Reading Lesson via Canvas for feedback. Completion of the Canvas assignment will be worth 8 additional points.
Dates/Times:
This workshop will be held on 3 separate occasions. Please register for the one that is geographically closest to your school. A * denotes the host school for each session.

PBIS Update
Our PBIS committee net on Thursday, and there are two new methods that are going to be started. The first is a recognition of a grade level each day who moves throughout the building following our PBIS expectations. This includes arrival and dismissal. If you see a group meeting expectations let me know, including your own. Each morning I will make an announcement that "I really liked the way X grade entered and exited the building as well as moved within the building during the day." Then I will say that the entire grade level gets 15 minutes extra recess that day. This will continue each day moving forward. Please have conversations with your students that all eyes are on them and they could get the extra recess simply by doing what is already expected. What we are looking for will change every few weeks, but I will keep you updated on the behavior we are focusing on.
Last, our focus for the remainder of January is on arrival and dismissal. Our expectations are that the hallways should be silent since it is a zone 0. Students should not talk once they leave the classroom until they exit the building. This includes lowering the noise level on the bus lot. We do this as a safety issue because teachers need to hear as names are called or there is an announcement or all-call from the office. Begin discussing with your students these expectations that are already in place, but we just need to enforce them.
Finally, we will be having a 2nd semester kick-off. More details coming soon. Thank you for all your hard work. I know it can be frustrating, but remember this is a process that takes 3-5 years to be fully implemented and embraced by all. We are doing great things at Ebinport.
State Testing Recommendations
"Students need to know that perimeter can be asked as “distance around.” In addition, have students practice with problems where only two sides of a rectangle are given and students must find perimeter (or distance around)."
This could be helpful as we begin preparing students for state testing. Check it out! I found the information above under Math and ELA Test Data Review.
Committees
Update: I have only received notes from Sunshine Committee. Please remember to send me notes before January 20.
