San Jose Parent Newsletter for week of May 12, 2020
A letter from the principal
The last few months have not only been unprecedented, but also very difficult on everyone. Students, parents, and teachers alike have had to make some major life adjustments in order to finish out the students' education, and we know that this has been a stressful event.
In order to alleviate stress for everyone, we will officially end the school year this Friday, May 15. This week, teachers are not assigning any new material or final exams- instead, we are working to help students catch up on their school work in order to help them end the year successfully. We are committed to helping your students be successful during this difficult time. If you have any questions about your student's grades, please do not hesitate to contact their teacher.
I know there may be questions over the coming months about school re-opening, upcoming events, construction, scheduling, etc... I will continue to keep communicating with you via newsletters, social media, app, website and phone calls. Also, if you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at michelle.knapp@sanjoseprep.org
As we go into the summer months, please know that you will be on our minds and that we cannot wait to see you when we are finally able to open our doors again. Thank you for being part of the San Jose family and have a wonderful summer!
Mrs. Knapp

Senior Class updates
Grad Bash:
Refunds for Grad Bash will be mailed directly to Seniors
Caps and Gowns:
Jostens mailed out all items, including caps and gowns. All Seniors should have received their items by now. Any questions should be directed to Jostens customer service at jostens.com
Please note that receiving a cap and gown does NOT automatically mean that the student has completed all of their graduation requirements! Please make sure that your Senior is working to complete their final coursework.
Prom:
Sadly, due to the continuing restrictions, we will have to cancel the Prom. Refunds will be issued and mailed out to families.
Senior Awards:
Our Senior Awards ceremony will be held virtually on Friday, June 5 at 7pm. Look for the link soon on the Senior Google Classroom page, social media, and a future newsletter.
Graduation:
We know that the pinnacle of the high school experience is the graduation ceremony. At this time, the graduation ceremony is scheduled for June 13.
The plan is for graduation ceremonies to still take place. If for any reason they cannot take place on the scheduled date, we will move the ceremony to a later date.
Graduation requirements:
Seniors are still required to complete the mandatory 24 credits and earn the 2.0 GPA. The only change to graduation requirements for this Senior class is that any testing that a senior still needed for graduation (i.e. Algebra EOC, Biology EOC, concordant score, etc...) will be waived. Please make sure that your senior is completing all of their required coursework and that they are passing, to ensure that they will graduate.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our graduation coach, Ms. Scott, at fallon.scott@sanjoseprep.org
Tell your friends!
Also, we will have a primary school next year for grades K-5! If you know anyone looking for an elementary school that will lead to college prep secondary, check out https://www.sanjoseprimary.org/ or check our page out on Facebook!

The number one reason students' grades are low is missing work. Please monitor your student's grades and encourage them to complete their assignments on time. If you have any questions about your student's grades, please contact the teacher and they will be happy to help you.
All of our teachers will have virtual office hours during regular school hours:
Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-3:50pm

Lunes a jueves: 8:00 a.m. a 3:50 p.m.
Viernes: 8:00 am-1:00pm

Segunda a quinta-feira: 8:00 - 15:00
Sexta-feira: 8:00 - 13:00
