All of the proceeds from the 5K are used to support the Kind Like Joey Foundation’s mission to honor Joey Edwards by encouraging others to spread random acts of kindness, to offer a college scholarship annually, and to provide financial assistance to families that have suddenly lost a school aged child. This year we are also raising funds to help build “Joey’s Lounge” at CB South, a space dedicated to Joey by the graduating class of 2022. Spirit Assembly -3/14/23

Butler Elementary School celebrated the end of the 2nd Trimester on March 14th. An important tradition at the end of each Trimester is our all-school Spirit Assembly, which celebrates the hard work and effort of our Butler Bear students! Many fun events were coordinated by our Spirit Committee - including our Butler Bear sing-along, relay race, Family Feud game show, and a special recognition for Mrs. Kessler - who always has so much Butler School Spirit! It was a great celebration!

Young Authors Assembly - Lauren Magaziner - Grades 4-6

Local New Hope author, Lauren Magaziner gave a wonderful presentation on "Being a Writer" inspiring our students to tell story with passion and perspective. Ms. Magaziner has been a writer her whole life and is passionate about the writing process. At her 3/10/23 assembly, she shared interesting stories about her books and how long it takes them to get published - the timing of the revision/editing process! Students in grades 4-6 enjoyed her presentation and it was fun to learn about her books!

"Butler Prepared" - Code Heart Training for Staff

Last year, Butler's CERT Emergency Response team went through the process of getting certified for CHOP's Youth Code Heart program. It is a yearly certification process which gives us this designation and training in the event a real emergency occurred during the school day. On Monday, March 13th, our unannounced drill took place and our CODE Heart CERT team responded quickly and efficiently, while being supported by District Health Department, Chal/Brit EMS, and the New Britain Township Police. We learned about our response time, what to do during specific scenarios for victims of SCA, and all school procedures. Our students and staff responded so well during the 20-minute event.

Student Showcase

Student Initiated Book Drive for Kids

Ella M. (3- Bigler) wanted to do something to give back to her community for her birthday. She came across BookSmiles, an organization that promotes literacy and the joy of reading by giving books to children throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey. Since she loves to read, she wanted to help make it easier for other children to have access to books! Butler collected more than 2000 books for Ella to donate. She hopes to continue the book drive every year!

Butler Elementary School prides itself on upholding to the highest standards of conduct and good work. When students demonstrate and emulate our Positive Paw Power attributes, it is noticed and acknowledged. Students receive Power Paw slips and place in our collecting bin in hopes of a special selection, which may include a unique Butler t-shirt or Breakfast with the Principals! With this week's breakfast, students had special time with Principals (Mr. Funseth & Dr. Doherty) and Student Counselors (Mrs. Milotich & Mrs. O'Connell) while being honored with a special certificate acknowledging their effort. Students work hard at helping our building rise to the top each and every day!
