New In Early Education

This is not brand new, but is currently a hot topic in Early Education. We never thought the education funding formula would be fully funded in Missouri, therefore, did not give the idea of state funding for "free and reduced" eligible early education opportunities much thought. But, here we are, it is happening!!

Below is a link to a DESE document outlining our ability as a Missouri School District, to bill DESE for ADA (Average Daily Attendance). There is a lot of math required for example: The requirement for attendance is 522 hours, our student currently attend 393 hours, so we would need to restructure our day/year to include 129 more student attendance hours.

The mandate that Head Start programs run 1021 hours a school year by 2021 (3 years away), definitely tells us that longer day/week programming for early education is heading our way from all fronts.

At my last statewide ECSE/DESE meeting, I was the table hostess for several discussion topics. I had the opportunity to meet and discuss topics about length of day, busing, ect with a lot of districts across the state. There are districts using ECSE funds to go a longer day with all students, some are doing 5 days a week.

I just viewed a new Webinar from DESE regarding ECSE Funds, big changes there as well.

We will need to stretch our thinking in the next few years, the leadership here at home won't be the determining factor, the funding sources are going to demand we think beyond our 3 hour days and four day weeks.

We are flexible and we will adapt to make any necessary changes, it's what we do.

Toner Trouble

The good news....lots of people are able to replace toner in the copy machine!

The bad news....if the office doesn't know you replaced the toner, they don't know we need to order more.

We try to keep two backup toner cartridges in the workroom at all times. Please let them know (go brag on your good deed) so that they can order more toner and we don't run out.

Big picture

First Day ESY Volunteer opportunities

We have MANY paraprofessionals working with our ESY students who do not have experience in our district or building. Please know that any amount of time you could volunteer that first day or two would be greatly appreciated. We start June 4th, kids arrive at 8:00 AM. THANKS for your consideration.

Check Out Time

As you work on your to do list we've sent you, please remember that ALL brown folders/cumulative folders need to be at GBEEC for summer!! Jill Jones gets the brown files and Kim gets a notification on any students dismissed.

Reminders

  • Staff Absence: If you secure a Para sub through the District, please include the sub’s name in your email to the office.
