Helpful Parent Information... ALL things Math and Reading Contracts
1. Students have a weekly contract in both Math and Reading. This contract is their classwork and students are given time during class daily to work on it while the teacher is working with small groups of students. If your child is not working with the teacher, then they should be completing the assigned tasks on the contract for the day. The only homework that students have is completing any work that they did not finish for that day on their contract. The entire contract is due completed on Friday! **Many students are not using time wisely in class and are also not completing the work at home nightly. Please encourage your child to work diligently in class and they should not have much, if any, homework to complete. Contracts that are not turned in on Friday will receive 10 points off for each day that they are late.
2. Digital copies of the contracts will be in your students Google Classroom and can be accessed from home if they forget to bring it home, however; if they have a worksheet attached to the contract, they may not be able to complete it without the hard copy of the contract. Please encourage them to bring the contract home if they need to finish work.
3. Contracts ARE NEEDED in class every day, so please encourage your child not to leave it at home.
Math
In Math, we have been studying Factors and Multiples. Please CLICK ON the buttons below to watch the videos. The first video shows how students are being taught to create their own multiplication chart to help them learn their multiplication facts and identify factors and multiples. We will practice this daily in class. The second video tells more about how we are teaching students to identify factors and multiples. Please watch and discuss these with your child.
Reading
We are continuing to read and do our book study on "Becoming Naomi Leon". The students have been very engaged and never want to stop reading! This week our focus in reading will be on point of view and perspective. They will be able to determine whether the story is being told in 1st or 3rd person and what they authors perspective is. Make sure that your child is also reading at home for 20 minutes a night.
Science
We are now halfway through the quarter and Mrs. Casarella's class is now doing Science with Mrs. LaRusso. We are currently learning about Magnetism and will be experimenting with magnetism in the Science lab Monday and Tuesday afternoons. If you would be available to volunteer to help with this lab, please let Mrs. LaRusso know as soon as possible. Our lab time is from 2:10-3:00.
Social Studies
Last week we discussed where we live. The students learned about the Hemispheres, Country, Regions, County, State, City, and their address. This week will are going to focus more on the state of North Carolina and the three regions; Mountain, Coastal Plains, and Piedmont.
