Math

Place Value

This six weeks in math we will focus on Place Value. We will work with numbers up to 120. We will start with building teen numbers. We will really take our time to work on understanding a ten as a unit. Having students make the ten and then placing the ones under the one heading. After teens are mastered we will monitor and build numbers to twenty. Building numbers to 120 is a big foundation in math.

We will count by 2's, 5's, and 10's. Look at youtube for some videos that help practice this.

Students will need to be able to build numbers to 120 and compare them with greater (>) or less than (<) signs. Students will also need to be able to compose and decompose numbers to 120:

25
Number word: twenty-five
Expanded form: 20+5
base ten: 2 tens 5 ones

digits: 25

Whatcha' Gonna' Do Count by 2's, 5's, 10's)

Reading

Nonfiction

Our focus for reading this six week is: Identify facts or details in text, heard or read. We will also ask relevant questions, seek clarification, and locate facts and details about stories and other texts.

The first few weeks we will focus on penguins. We will put together a penguin book all about penguins focusing on facts and details of penguins. We will also learn how to ask questions to indicate if you are curious and how to find the answers to what we are curious about. Readers ask questions before, during, and after reading to help understand, and think about what the text is about.

Weather

I am so excited about all the different learning we will be doing with weather. First, we will create a weather book that includes a daily weather graph, we will discuss weather instruments and create a thermometer, we will label the different types of precipitation and create a water cycle just to name a few. After learning weather basics we will become forecasters and use a green screen and our iPads to film weather forecast around the world. Look for our weather forecast on Seesaw parent app. If you are not connected, let me know.
