News From The Media Center
Reading Goal Update
This year we are trying to reach a goal of 20,000 books checked out as a school. As of this week,, the media centers have checked out a total of 3,824 books!
Library Skills
Our goal as a school media center is to empower students to begin more independent use of the library’s resources. To that end, we have shown students in grades 3-5 how to use Follett Destiny, our library catalog. They have a QR code in their classrooms to access it and also to suggest a purchase. Soon, Upper elementary students will begin to study reference sources (dictionaries, thesauri, atlases, and research databases) during their class visits to the media center.
We will also discuss different systems of organizing information (alphabetical, chronological, subject, etc.) to determine if our media center is organized in a way that is efficient and intuitive for students. Students will have the opportunity to help create displays, labels, and otherwise have a direct effect on the library's space.
Scholastic Book Fair scheduled for the week of May 8th!
