Imagine It!

Imagine It was an absolute HIT! The audience was entertained and smiling from start to end. The plot was whimsical yet deep. Favorite parts included the extra long caterpillar that featured actors of all ages and the town hall meeting with the hilarious "Stop It" board. Standing ovation to the brilliance and charisma from both cast and tech.

Last week the third and fourth graders went to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse and it was a fabulous learning experience!

"Students toured the lighthouse which was decorated with items from the family that lived there in the early 1900s. They also looked at the archeological site of the initial lighthouse before it was rebuilt and visited the fog signal building with a shipwreck museum inside. Thank you parent chaperones!"

- Mrs. Wheeler, Mr. Pershinske, and Mrs. Klein

Reading Goal Update

This year we are trying to reach a goal of 20,000 books checked out as a school. As of this week,, the media centers have checked out a total of 3,824 books!

Big picture

Library Skills

Our goal as a school media center is to empower students to begin more independent use of the library’s resources. To that end, we have shown students in grades 3-5 how to use Follett Destiny, our library catalog. They have a QR code in their classrooms to access it and also to suggest a purchase. Soon, Upper elementary students will begin to study reference sources (dictionaries, thesauri, atlases, and research databases) during their class visits to the media center.

We will also discuss different systems of organizing information (alphabetical, chronological, subject, etc.) to determine if our media center is organized in a way that is efficient and intuitive for students. Students will have the opportunity to help create displays, labels, and otherwise have a direct effect on the library's space.
