Corporation Control Over Media
By Melody Prathan
Am I being controlled?
From the day you are born, till the day you take your last breath, corporations have controlled what you watch, hear, and read. From toddlers to teens to adults and elders, In 1983, 90% of the US media was owned by 50 companies, and now, just 6. These big companies are, Disney, Comcast, Newscorp, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS. Though with the rise of internet and being able to control more of your media, these dominated eras will soon come to an end, for it has gone one for too long.
Disney and their control!
You come home from a busy day at work, and need to begin cooking dinner. You sit your 2 year old son on the couch, and put on what you think is just a friendly Disney show to keep him distracted, and that is the problem. He is being distracted, and so are you. Shah quotes, ¨ ‘We have no obligation to make history. We have no obligation to make art. We have no obligation to make a statement. To make money is our only objective. - Michael Eisner’ ¨ This is representing that Disney does not care what their company follows, or supports and persuades active watchers to believe in, but only about the money.
As improved independent control on the internet is rising, we will come to realize more than what the radio and television have been telling us. The longer this goes on, the more time it will take to come to our senses, that we cannot trust what is being programmed through our oblivious minds. Take a stand, and for a change, actually remote your controls.
