This Week is Red Ribbon Week!
Please encourage your students to dress us with the themed days below this week! You can wear jeans with each themed day. (Again, if you purchased a month of jeans passes for the month of October then you can redeem this week's of jeans for another week).
October is Drug Awareness month. Over 100,000 schools and organizations throughout the United States celebrate Red Ribbon Week each year. Every year, teachers, students, administrators, parents and community leaders work together during Red Ribbon Week to spread the message about the danger of drug use. The goal is to teach students to stay away from drugs and to make healthy choices. Giesinger Elementary is celebrating Red Ribbon Week the week of October 21-25. We will have a different theme each day that correlates with our goal to be healthy! We would love for you to participate by dressing the theme.
Monday – 99 Reasons to Live a Healthy Life
Wear Texans Gear/JJ Watt 99 Shirt or Jersey/Any Other Houston Team Shirt
Tuesday - Give Unhealthy Choices The BOOT!
Wear your favorite boots. (cowboy, rain, work, etc.)
Wednesday – Healthy Choices Always WORKOUT!
Wear your favorite workout clothes.
(sweats, running shoes, leg warmers, sweat bands, etc.)
Thursday – Making Unhealthy Choices is CRAZY!
Wear Crazy Socks and Hair
Friday – Tiger Pride, City Wide
Wear your Tiger gear to show that we, as a CHS feeder, are Drug-Free.
(Any CHS, Peet, Cryar, or Giesinger shirt will work.)

Early Voting Begins on Monday!
Early voting for the November 5th Bond Referendum begins on Monday, October 21st, and goes through Friday, November 1st. For more information about the upcoming Bond Election and to view early voting polling locations and times, please visit www.conroeisd.net/bond or visit our Facebook page at @CISDBond2019.
"I Voted" Challenge! Starts Monday!
Early voting begins Monday and we have been challenged to collect 100 “I voted” stickers! I know we can do this but the question is how quickly can we get them?
There will be a poster size 100 chart in our faculty hallway on Monday. Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to vote! Ask them for their “I voted” stickers and stick them on our chart. As soon as we reach 100 then we will get jeans from that day until November 30th!
If we collect 100 stickers before November 1st then those of you with remaining October jeans passes can redeem them in December.
Gather your people and VOTE!
Voting Dates
- Last Day to Register to Vote – Monday, October 7, 2019
- Early Voting Begins – Monday, October 21, 2019
- Early Voting Ends – Friday, November 1, 2019
- Election Day – Tuesday, November 5, 2019
EMPLOYEE SPEECH RIGHTS DURING BOND ELECTIONS
Giesinger staff will Block Walk on October 17th. We will meet in the library after dismissal to get the "game plan" before we walk a neighborhood. The goal is to have at least 15 people participate. Of course, everyone is invited to "walk."
Everyone has an opinion about elections, and CISD employees are no different. When you are acting as a CISD employee, you can only share FACTUAL information about the bond election. As a private citizen, you can share your OPINION. Be sure you know the difference!
Below are some tips to help you comply with state law and exercise your First Amendment Rights.
In your capacity as a CISD employee, you can provide FACTUAL information about the bond by:
- block-walking;
- posting factual information on your professional social media account;
- putting factual information in the school newsletter;
- making factual information available at events at your school; and
- sharing facts when talking to or emailing your parents, staff, co-coworkers, and friends.
Just be sure that in your role as an employee, you are only providing factual information, and do not advocate “for” or “against” the bond.
As a private citizen, you can give your opinion and advocate “for” or “against” the bond by:
- block-walking;
- posting on your personal social media accounts;
- talking to or emailing from your personal account your family and friends;
- putting a campaign sign in your yard or a bumper sticker on your car;
- wearing a t-shirt or button advocating your position; and
- taking a personal day off from work or on the weekend to stand at a polling location.
When you are advocating, be sure you don’t use any CISD resources, like CISD facilities, your paid time, or CISD supplies and equipment.
Postivity Project Character Strength of the Week:
Perspective is our Positivity Project trait for the week.
Perspective means you appreciate when people see things in
different ways. You have the ability to
understand the world from multiple points of
view.
Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct
from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out
for advice because they see the big picture and can make
sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of
perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart
of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly,
they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent
manner.
Perspective is usually gained over time, as one
accumulates more knowledge and experiences. However,
developing perspective is not only a matter of time. It
comes from truly listening to others when they talk and
books, listening to stories, or watching movies.

Please Avoid Parking at the Church of Christ on Longmire
The Church of Christ on Longmire will begin repairs on their parking lot and has asked us to please avoid parking there until the end of September. We appreciate using their parking lot for the overflow of our school events and want to accommodate to help them with their needs.
Thank you for your assistance.
"Feels Like" Temperature
We will be using Weather Underground for our daily weather check.
Please use this link and/or app. Graystone Hills has a weather station here so we will use this unless it goes down.
https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/tx/conroe/KTXCONRO198
The app looks like this. Our ZIP code is 77304 then you may have to select the weather station "Graystone Hills".
Come see me if you have trouble.
If the "feels like temp" is 95-98 degrees, you may have 15 minutes of outside recess instead of 30.
If the "feels like temp" is 99 or greater there is no outside recess.
