Classroom Updates

Mrs. McComas - May - 2015

Updates and news

Hello parents! We have finally made it! We are entering into the final six weeks of the year, and what a BUSY time it will be! Each of the classes will be finishing up curriculum and reviewing in preparation for the EOG/EOCs that are quickly approaching.

In Pre-Algebra, we have finished with the 7th grade curriculum and are addressing a very important 8th grade concept: linear functions. We will be exploring slope and linear functions in slope-intercept form with our culminating project: The Barbie Zipline!

In Math I, we are completing our final unit of study in Data and Statistics. We will test on this topic next week, and then we will spend the remainder of our time reviewing not only for the Math I EOC, but also the 7th/8th grade EOG tests. I will be offering two 3-hour Saturday review sessions in May to help review the Math I concepts. Please see the details and dates of these sessions below.

In Math II, we are exploring circle theorems, including equations and arc/chord theorems within circles. We will soon finish up the curriculum in Math II and begin reviewing both Math II and 8th grade concepts in preparation for the MSL and EOG.

The 6th six weeks tends to have few grades, so completion of all assignments on time is crucial. Having one or two zeros in a six weeks where we are so rushed with so few assignments can be extremely difficult to overcome, so please check Angel with your child to ensure that he/she is completing assignments that are listed on the calendar in Angel daily. Some assessments that I will be using this six weeks, including TenMarks and ClassScape, shut down after the window has expired and can NOT be reassigned to the child; therefore a zero remains a zero on these assignments. Again, please have your child check the calendar on Angel DAILY to ensure he/she does not miss any assignments!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
