Updated School Protocol - School Nurse
From the Nurse,
The following are the most updated protocols for LCPS-
The new CDC/VDH guidance requires people who test positive for COVID-19 to isolate for at least five days. They may return to school or work after five days if their symptoms are resolving and have not had a fever in 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. Individuals must wear a well-fitting mask for the five days following isolation to minimize the risk of infecting others.
LCPS will institute a five-day quarantine for all individuals identified as close contacts. Individuals identified as close contacts who are asymptomatic and submit proof of one of the following may be readmitted to school or work immediately:
• A vaccine booster, for those 18 years and older
• Completed 2 shots of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series
• One shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Students that are considered close contacts.
· If they are less than 3 feet apart with or without a mask for longer than 15 minutes
· As per the above protocol your student would be able to return to school as long as they remain asymptomatic and whoever has tested (+) has been isolated. If they have not been isolated and your student has continued to be near someone who has tested (+), they would require a longer quarantine period. The reason for this is.
o the first day of quarantine begins on the last day of exposure to a person that has
tested (+)
Students that have tested (+) for COVID-19
· isolate for at least five days
· Isolation begins from the onset of symptoms and must continue for at least 5 days or until symptoms have subsided and are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication
· for those that are asymptomatic
o Isolation begins on the day a test was taken.
o If you are taking a test, please begin to isolate immediately and do not send your student to school while waiting for the test results!!
· Individuals must wear a well-fitting mask for the five days following isolation to minimize the risk of infecting others.
Please do not send your student to school if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
I hope this helps, please contact me with any further concerns and/or questions.
