Dr. Mark Brackett: Creating Emotionally Intelligent Schools

Wednesday, March 25th, 8:30am-3pm

2111 Pontiac Lake Rd

Waterford Township, MI

Creating Emotionally Intelligent Schools is an innovative and highly interactive workshop rooted in a "hard science" approach to what has historically been called "soft skills." Participants will learn how emotions impact attention, memory, decision making, performance, and one’s overall wellbeing. Participants leave with new knowledge and skills, and practical tools like the Mood Meter to build both self-awareness and a more sophisticated emotion vocabulary and the Meta-Moment to both prolong and effectively manage that crucial "space" between our emotional triggers and responses. These tools can be used immediately at school to achieve greater personal and professional success.

Peers Making Peace: Facilitator Training

Thursday, April 30th, 8am

2111 Pontiac Lake Road

Waterford Township, MI

Peers Making Peace (PMP) is an award winning and widely recognized school based peer mediation program. Oakland Mediation Center is the only entity in Michigan credentialed to train school staff in Peers Making Peace.

Peer mediation programs train identified students as neutral third parties to intervene and assist other students in the resolution and management of interpersonal disputes.

Peer mediation gives students an opportunity to resolve the conflict at hand and strategies to handle similar problems in the future without having an adult solve their problems for them.

Includes three sessions: April 30, May 7th and May 14th, 2015.
