6/2/2020
Greetings Schroeder Families,
In the weeks ahead our community will engage in activities and celebrations to officially bring the 2019-2020 school year to close. COVID19 has presented all communities with unprecedented, unexpected and unwelcome challenges. None-the-less, it is our intent to provide our 1350 high school students with school closure activities and to recognize our wonderful Class of 2020. Below you will find information designed to safely close school.
Next week, June 8th - June 11th, students will have a scheduled opportunity to return items to school and to retrieve personal items from lockers. Students in grades 9-11 will hold their Chromebooks & chargers over the summer break. Seniors!! - (see flyer below) On June 11th from 8AM - Noon @ Thomas HS will host a drive-thru event to turn in your Chromebooks & chargers.

We'll be asking students to clean out lockers and return books and instruments next week, Monday 6/8 - Thursday 6/11.

HOW CAN I PICK UP MY ART PROJECTS?
While you are cleaning out your lockers, please plan to stop by your art room if you want to keep your projects.
Art rooms will be open from Monday 6/8 through Thursday 6/11 from 10:00am- 2:00pm. Please sign up for a spot within those hours.
1. Please pick up your artwork from both Fall and Spring Art classes.
2. Work that is not picked up may not be saved until the fall, due to space.
3. Please drop off any art supplies that you signed out & took home in March to your teacher's classroom. There will be designated spots in each room for these supplies. Please bag and label the supplies you are returning with your name so the supplies they can be checked back in.
Some students have many pieces and LARGE projects to take home. Please plan accordingly and bring a box (es) to help carry things out.

Resources on Addressing Race and Trauma
Here are some resource documents that have been shared with me to support staff talking with students about their thoughts and feelings around the current events across the country and in Rochester this past weekend:
· Traumatic Impact of Racism on Young People and Approaching Racism with Compassion & Humility (attached)- One is the updated chapter from Dr. Ginsberg’s second edition of Reaching Teens. It is a lengthy chapter, however, it provides learning for anyone working with children of all ages before diving into more teen specific language. The second document, Approaching Racism with Compassion & Humility, is adapted/excerpted from the chapter created by Amy and Deb. Their goal was to pull more of the “what to do now” or “crisis response” portions of the chapter together. By providing both documents, those that would like to dive deeper into our resource are able.
· Addressing Race and Trauma in the Classroom (attached)- A resource for educators by NCTSN
· A video from Trevor Noah: Trevor Noah video
· Multiple resources for Talking about Race, Racism, and Racialized violence with Kids from the Center for Racial Justice in Education: https://centerracialjustice.org/resources/resources-for-talking-about-race-racism-and-racialized-violence-with-kids/
· Raising Race Conscious Children’s 100 Race Conscious Things to Say to Your Child to Advance Racial Justice
· Teaching Tolerance’s Speak Up!
· NASP’s Supporting Marginalized Students:
Another suggestion that were shared includes connecting with your contracted clinic providers (if your school has some) to see what type of support they can provide to students around their emotional responses to the events, including witnessing violence.
Thank you to all who have shared resources. If you come across additional resources, please feel free to share with the group. Stay safe and be well.
Thanks,
