Mrs. Wilson's Classroom
September 21-25
Our Week in 6th Grade
Tuesday we talked camp. Each student should have camp reminders in their planner (listed on October 1 and 2) as well as a reminder sheet that I handed out. We also started the rough draft of their Bio Poem in class.
Wednesday we typed out Bio poems. We did a quick tutorial of Google docs before the students started typing. We also had Mr. Meyer, the district librarian, talk to our class about using the library's website.
Thursday we finished up our Bio Poems. The students could get as creative as they wanted with publishing this assignment.
Friday we had our first Open Mic Friday. This gave students a chance to share a writing piece that they have worked on this year. This has made me really excited to start narrative writing when we get back from camp.
Our Week in 7th Grade
Tuesday we started to generate ideas for our narrative writing piece. We talked about strategies that we used the last few years and how we need to focus in on a small moment to write about.
Wednesday we talked about how our narratives can be fiction. We started to focus in on character development. Students were creating descriptions of their character. These descriptions hopefully included a name, a characteristic trait, and something that happened to their character lately.
Thursday we worked on developing our character a little more with a quick scene write. We walked our character through an everyday occurrence (mourning routine, going to work, grocery shopping, doing dishes) to see how they would react.
Friday we made the final decisions on who our main characters would be for our narrative writing and we started to develop the conflict or problem they would be going through.

Camp Reminders
1. Students need to pack a lunch for Thursday. The lunch should be packed in disposable bags and students should only pack what they can eat. We will not have time to return anything to cabins after lunch.
2. Any medications that your child is bringing to camp need to be in a Ziploc baggie with the medication form and their name on the outside of the bag. Some of you have handed in the medication forms with your other camp forms. I still have those. If it is a medication that your child takes here at school, I will have that along.
3. Pack for the weather. We will be participating in our activities no matter what the weather brings. Please be prepared for it.
4. Only pack what your child can carry. We don't have extra people to carry luggage.
