Review

I read a nonfiction novel called Chasing Lincoln's Killer by James Swanson. I must say, this is has become my favorite nonfiction book. It's was informational, graphic, and escapade all wrapped into a single story. This book tell the story of a Confederate supporter named John Wilkes Booth, which was also Lincoln's killer. Readers get the behind the scenes information that was never put out about Lincoln's murder. I read about how Booth created, execution, and the fled Lincoln's murder. Swanson writing style makes the reader feel like they're acting in a movie. He stated every minor detail to put suspense and description in the story. Swanson definitely put a spin on the typical nonfiction book to the point where I thought I was watching a James Bond movie. By the end of the book I felt like I personally knew Booth.

The thing I enjoyed the most in this book was the visual images though out the book. I think Swanson had a great idea to add real pictures because I am a visual learner. It was mind- blowing to see pictures of the actual gun Booth used to kill Lincoln and the theater Lincoln died in. I also liked the fact that the book was in third point of view. This made it easier for readers to understand what everybody involved in the murder was doing. He wrote in scenes, so after we got an update on Booth after he escaped, I could also know what was going on with Lincoln. Overall, I would read this book all over again if I had to. It changed my mind set about nonfiction.
