The PACK is Back!

Mission Vista is pleased to announce the return of the PACK tutoring program.

PACK tutoring is available to all interested students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4pm in the Library. Teachers and peer tutors will be available to assist students with homework and assignments, and the Library will be available as a space for students to study. Students who normally take the bus to and from school will be able to take a late bus at 4pm on PACK days.

Heart Screening Event on Sunday

1 in 300 youth are at risk right now for Sudden Cardiac Arrest and do not not know it! THIS Sunday, don't miss the opportunity to screen your child's heart for free right here at Mission Vista High School anytime between 9:00-1:30. The screening is for all youth ages 12-25 and walk-ins are welcome. Click here for more information.

Is Your Student Planning to Take the SAT or ACT?

Test Prep Preview Weekend--2/22-2/23: The PTSA, in conjunction with The Princeton Review, is holding a Test Prep Preview Weekend for only $15!

  • SAT Practice Test: a timed, proctored, full-length test (without the optional essay)
  • SAT Sample Class - Class 1 from TPR’s Ultimate Course taught in its entirety, including an introduction to key strategies that are applicable to the entire test and a class booklet with materials that students can keep and reference
  • Detailed score reports & optional strategy session

Look for the flyer/registration form on the PTSA website, via email, in the Counseling Office, and on social media (MVHS PTSA is on Instagram and Facebook!).

Register by February 17th!

Magnet School Application Window and School Tours

The magnet schools application window is open for the 2020-2021 school year. Current students at MVHS do not need to apply again. However, prospective students have until February 21st to complete an application for admission to MVHS. The application information page can be found here.

Mission Vista will continue to host its regular school tours through mid-Feburary. The next tour is Tuesday, February 11th. More information about school tours can be found here.

Near-Peer Job Coaching Available for Students Interested in Finding a Job

Vista Unified has partnered with the San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) to bring near-peer job coaches to each of the three comprehensive high schools in the District. The job coaches are available to assist students with writing resumes, job interview tips, and employment and internship opportunities in and around our area. The MVHS job coach is available to assist students on Tuesdays from 2:00-3:30 in the Career Center. Interested students are encouraged to stop by the Career Center for more information.

Counseling and Career Center Information

Academic Planning

If students have not yet entered their Academic Plan courses within Aeries Portal please complete. Alternates and exceptions resolved during annual Counselor/Student meetings.

Courses requiring applications, auditions, or contracts can be selected through the online Academic Plan but students must complete the applications, auditions, or contract process, due March 27th, 2020, to remain in the class.

Students, please be aware that starting with the 2020-21 school year, VUSD Board Policy restricts Unscheduled/Free Period to Seniors only! Keep this in mind for upcoming course selection.

Students are expected to research using the online Course Catalog and discuss options with teachers, parents, & peers.

All 9th, 10th and 11th-grade students will be visiting Counseling in February & March for an Individual Academic Plan review.

College and Career Center

  • ASVAB: The ASVAB will be Tuesday Feb.11th during 1st and 2nd period. All 10-12 grade students who are interested, please sign up on the MVHS Counseling Website or visit the Career Center. ASVAB sign up

  • Scholarships/Community Service: Representatives from the Miss Oceanside Pageant will be on campus,Friday January 24th. This is a great opportunity to earn scholarships and community service hours. Visit the Career Center for more information.

  • Seniors: Palomar Application workshop is Monday 2/10/2020. If you plan on attending Palomar College, or even if you are unsure but want to apply just in case, make sure you sign up for the workshop, as representatives will be there to assist you. Sign up by visiting the Career Center or through the link.

  • Juniors: If you are interested in a week-long leadership conference geared toward government instruction and civic engagement, then the Boys State and Girls State leadership program may be for you. Come by the career center or contact Mr. Faraimo for more information. Only 1 student is selected. Here are the links for more information; Boys State and Girls State.

  • Many local scholarships are now open; come by the career center for assistance on completing your applications

Seniors: it's time to start thinking about scholarships! California State PTA offers a $750 Volunteer Service Scholarship and a $500 Dr. Ralph E. White Scholarship for medical-field education. The deadline to apply is 2/1/20. For more information, please click here.

Speaking of scholarships, your MVHS PTSA awards two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors who are members of the MVHS PTSA. Stay tuned for a link to the application, which will be released next month. In the meantime, be sure that the student in your life is a PTSA member so they are eligible to apply! Spring Term Carpool Needs? In the fall, MVHS PTSA created a digital bulletin board for families to find carpools to and from school. Tickets are now on sale for the annual Timberwolves Foundation fundraiser, which will be held March 14, 2020.
