Welcome Back!

Reminder--registration for new kindergarteners is scheduled for next week Wednesday, January 17 from 9:00am - 3:30pm and next week Thursday, January 18 from 9:00am - 7:00pm. Registration packets were mailed to Wauwatosa families the other week. If you have a child to register and do not receive a packet, please stop in the office to complete the paperwork. If a student is currently enrolled at Washington for the 2017-2018 school year, there is nothing that needs to be done in order for them to continue school at Washington for the 2018-2019 school year.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Russell

Cold Weather Reminder

Just a reminder to send your child(ren) with a coat, gloves, hat, snow pants and boots everyday. Please have all items labeled with your child's name including their boots. The only time we have indoor recess is if the temperature or wind chill is below 0 degrees or it is raining outside.

STEM Program Update

Our first ever Washington Family STEM Night was a huge success! We had over 60 families working on engineering design challenges all over the building. We will repeat this event with new challenges in April, date TBD. To see photos or add your own from the event click this link, https://photos.app.goo.gl/inVZpaccdY48YT1A2

Coding with Ozobots

4th Grade students used Ozobots to create an interactive poster about the water cycle they were studying in science. The Ozobot follows the black line and when it comes to a code, which for the Ozobot is a set of colors, it reacts with an action. Students had to put 4 codes in their water cycle and explain why they used this code to represent each part of the cycle.

Winter MAP Testing Kindergarten thru Fifth Grade

We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading and math. SK through 5th grade will use chromebooks in their classrooms to complete the MAP tests.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Each school year, students at the elementary level take the tests during Sept/October, January and May. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth. If you have any questions about MAP testing, please contact your child(ren)’s teacher.

Schedule for Winter MAP Testing @ Washington:

Week of January 15th Winter MAP – Reading Second thru Fifth Grade

Week of January 22nd Winter MAP – Math Kinder and First Grade

Week of January 29th Winter MAP – Math Second thru Fifth Grade
