Tashua Family Weekly Update
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
October 15, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
We have some wonderful news to share! According to U.S. News, Tashua School has placed 16th out of 560 elementary schools in Connecticut:
https://patch.com/connecticut/bethel/u-s-news-ranks-848-connecticut-k-8-schools-see-full-list.
We are so proud of our students and our staff! And, we can't thank you enough for all that you do to help contribute to our success! Without our strong family partnerships, we couldn't accomplish all that we do...we appreciate you!
Next week, we will be recognizing National Health Education week, America's Safe Schools week and National School Bus Safety week. Throughout the week, we will be sharing morning announcements focusing on health and safety. Teachers will also be having classroom discussions with students highlighting health and safety tips. We have already practiced all of our safety drills (fire, weather-related, stay-put and lockdown) at least one time this year with our students. We have also practiced our annual bus evacuation drill. The students all did a fine job listening and following the safety protocols. They have great questions and understand the importance of practicing these drills. We will also be focusing on Digital Citizenship next week. Mrs. McKenna will be teaching the students lessons throughout the week. Next week, we will be sharing ideas for you to follow up with your children at home.
Please be reminded, next Friday, October 22nd, Tashua will be taking the Pink Pledge and participating in TPS town-wide PINK OUT day. Our staff members will be wearing pink on this day to support breast cancer awareness. Students are welcome to join us too! Please help Tashua School raise money to support Bridgeport Hospital Foundation Inc.
If you would like to make a donation, here is our Tashua School fundraising link:

Further, we will also continue to wear our crazy socks every Friday during the month of October to serve as a reminder to make donations to our Socktober Drive. The new socks that we collect will be donated to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.
On Friday, October 29th, students will participate in a Halloween celebration in their classrooms. Our classroom parent volunteers have been working with our teachers to plan for these festive celebrations. Students can wear orange and black to school on this day and/or a simple costume during the time of the party. The simple costumes that are sent into school need be costumes that can be put on quickly and independently and over clothing. Students will not be going to the bathroom to change into costumes.
Also on this day, we will be having a school-wide virtual dance party! Students are going to LOVE watching our staff members demo some of their dance moves as they dance along with us! Our students have earned this celebration by reaching our P.B.I.S. goal of earning over 50 stripes for Thunder! Students have been working very hard as classroom communities to demonstrate the positive T.I.G.E.R.S. (Tolerance, Integrity, Generosity, Empathy, Responsibility and Self-Control) character traits and fill their recognition charts. We are thrilled with their motivation to be the best they can be each and every day!
Lastly, please be sure to review Dr. Semmel's monthly parent update and complete our Safe School Climate Survey. This survey data helps us to recognize our strengthens and to set goals for further improvement. We appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at NeumeyeJ@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4433.
Fondly,
Mrs. Neumeyer

Again, Tashua School staff and PTA are eager to celebrate and promote diversity and inclusion in our community by launching affinity groups. Affinity groups are community sub-groups organized based on social identity, shared characteristics, or life experiences. Affinity groups are designed to promote diversity and inclusion as spaces for those with common interests and experiences to share and collaborate. They are a source of support, and an opportunity to foster the exchange of ideas between people of diverse backgrounds. Some examples might include: Asian-American parent group, African-American parent group, Latinx/Hispanic parent group, LGBTQIA parent group, Parents of students with special needs, Parents of adopted children, Single parent family group, etc. The Affinity groups that are the most requested will be established. Please know that all members of our school community are welcome to participate in any of the Affinity groups that are established, as a member of the group who shares a commonality or as an ally to support the group. The adult Affinity group meetings will be held in various locations at Tashua School prior to our in-person/bi-monthly PTA meetings. Please complete This form to suggest possible groups to be formed within the Tashua parent community and indicate your interest in facilitating a group. We are excited to launch this initiative and we looking forward to our continued work together to enhance our school community.
