19-20 Virtual Academy Newsletter
Berrien Springs Virtual Academy publication
Welcome Back to the school year!
What a whirlwind of a start to the year! We have truly hit the ground running this year! First of all, WELCOME to all 35 new students - this is the highest new enrollment that we have ever had. Second, WELCOME to our new afternoon staff member: Mrs. Nidhi Sharma. Mrs. Sharma is excited to help students learn and has already proven herself to be a capable professional in the classroom. Third, great job to all students completing the NWEA testing, learning all of their platforms, and for completing schedules.
We are now shifting our focus from start-up up procedures to important support services for students and working to make sure we are focusing on the individual student. Students should know by September 27 who their mentor is and should have established communication lines. Please take a few moments to read through this important first newsletter, and as always, feel free to call with any questions or concerns! (269) 473-0500
2018-2019 Standardized Testing Results
MSTEP 3-7, PSAT 8, PSAT 9, PSAT 10, and SAT Results
The state recently released all of the scores from Spring 2019 testing. We are pleased to share those results with you here. Each graph compares the results of the Virtual Academy to the State of Michigan. Further data may be obtained on mischooldata.org on the parent dashboard. The Virtual Academy students scored higher than state average on 18 out of 21 tested areas. The areas where the program scored lower were 7th grade Math and 11th grade SAT Math and English Reading/Writing.
In simplest terms, the Virtual Academy has once again scored above the state average in all grades 8-11. We have proudly had this trend since 2013. This is a major point of pride for our school and we would like to share this celebration with our hard-working students and staff! Great job everyone!

COMMUNICATION IS KEY!!!
Communication is Key - attention all 6th - 12th grade students
Students may receive communication and communicate with staff and other students in a variety of ways:
1. School email - do you know how to login to your school email? Did you sync it to your phone?
2. Pulse Comm App - students should now be set up, if you are not, see Mrs. Stout ASAP.
3. 9th - 12th grade - REMIND with the guidance counselors from the High School. This is very important for reminders such as schedules, special days, standardized testing, snow days etc etc. PLEASE see below for the link to your remind group.
4. All families - have you supplied working phone and email through your online enrollment? If anything at all has changed, please contact us ASAP so that we may update our system.
