People move from east to west
Introduction
The Westward Expansion trail is a trail. People go on it to ride from the east to the west. People die and survive. Other people trade and kill. People rest in forts as they want to expand land, claim land and to find riches.
Why people moved using the trail
The Donner Party traveled using the Westward trail. Some people traveled using the trail to get new land, or some people wanted to expand land. Pioneers moved east to west. Some people went to a gold rush to strike rich. Probably they want riches for their family. There were lots of gold mines in the west. Some of the gold mines are called Empire mine, Copper Queen, and the Homestake mine.

Forts
There were a lot of forts while traveling. Some of them are Fort Sumter, Fort Wagner and Sutter's Fort. All of the forts are in Sacramento. People used to go there to buy, trade and rest. People buy things like tools, food clothing and wheels. People also stay in the forts to sleep there. These forts are famous because people still go and visit these forts.
Cannibalism
Cannibalism means the eating of human flesh by another human being. Bad things happened. Lots of people died. Also cannibalism happened. It was really dangerous back then. Some people ran out of food. Other people ate other people. A lot of people ate things that make them die. So eating people is cannibalism
Transportation
Back then, people were using covered wagons to travel. People had to bring animals to pull their covered wagon. Mules were really common to pull covered wagons. There were some covered wagon trains that held 120 wagons. Others were really small and could only hold up to three to five wagons.
Conclusion
So people traveled through the Westward trail to find riches and to claim land. Also, to expand their land. People mostly traveled with covered wagons.
