Hi Students and Families!
Spending time reading with your child is the number one best thing that you can do to help your child progress in their love of reading at any age. It might be snuggled on the couch with a book that is above your child’s reading ability and you are stopping to talk to them about the book as you read it aloud or it might be helping them to read a book that they can navigate reading with little support from you. Take the time to talk with them about the stories (characters, settings, problems/solutions, themes, etc) or informational text (what you are learning) as you read together.
Here are a couple articles from Reading Rockets that might be helpful to you.
Here’s a couple of reading games to try with your child at home. You can click on the link or scan the QR code for a quick video explaining.
Let me know if you try these and how they worked to practice reading skills with your child!

Annual Action Plan
Inclement Weather
As the weather forecasts indicate, we may see cold weather this winter. Our Superintendent, Dr. Rumbaugh, has shared with everyone how we make the determination to delay or close schools due to ice, snow, flooding, etc.
Safety first! We consider the safety of our children on buses, our student drivers, families driving and walking to school, and the safety of our staff, especially our bus drivers.
We monitor weather patterns using multiple methods 24/7. In particular, we use a tool called Accuweather that is specifically designed to support school districts in looking ahead at weather patterns.
When there is a concern about school starting on time, our staff begins driving the roads throughout the district as early as 2 a.m. We take photos, check road conditions, monitor traffic, look for hazards, etc. We typically drive the roads multiple times in the early morning to determine if conditions are improving, worsening, or staying the same.
We strive to decide about the school day by 5 a.m. Once the decision is made, we begin communicating with families and staff. We communicate through:
Autodialer (via School Messenger)
Email (via School Messenger)
Website
Flash Alert
Predicting the weather is a challenge, and our primary goal is to ensure that the roads are safe, our campuses are easy to navigate, and the weather does not impede a safe school day.

WATCH DOGs
Fathers and father figures,
The Watch DOGs program was created by the National Center for Fathering. Its purpose is to increase male involvement in schools and provide positive male role models for students. The program is a chance for fathers or father figures (grandfathers, uncles, etc.) to take an active part in their students' day. The program invites “Dads” to spend a day or half day at school volunteering in various ways. The Watch DOGs help with everything from welcoming students in the morning, mentoring students one on one with reading or math games, helping out at recess playing games, patrolling the campus and hallways, eating lunch with students, and spending time in your student’s classroom. Students and staff look forward to our Watch DOGs each and every day. Their presence and support for our school is greatly appreciated. For more information about Watch DOGs please watch the video links below. In order to serve as a WATCH Dog please complete the volunteer training and background check. If you need any assistance with completing the background check, volunteer training, or how to sign up please contact our school office.
Want to Volunteer?
All volunteers must be cleared through Washington State Patrol background checks. You do this by completing the volunteer form. This form can be filled out electronically or we have hard copies in the office, and you may leave those with us to turn into Human Resources. Once HR has completed the background checks, your name is added to our cleared list. You may contact the office to see if this process is completed.
All volunteers must also do the HIB training. This is now available by watching a short video and submitting your agreement electronically.
The following are needed to complete the Volunteer Application:
-Volunteer Application
-Volunteer Handbook Acknowledgment (found on the final page of the handbook)
-Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Training (Access Online Training HERE)
The volunteer form must be completed and cleared every two years.
The HIB training must be done every year.
