September 7-11
The buzz in room 615
Last Week
We had a very busy week last week! As planned, we focused on numbers 0-5 and studied letters A-D. We practiced our writing, reading, and math skills a LOT through the use of stations. Everyone got very good at learning how our math and literacy stations work. We used a timer to time each one for 10-12 minutes, and the students started to be able to recognize when time was almost up. We will continue with our stations this week, only there are some new and exciting ones in the plans!
Take a peek at the pictures below to check out a few of the things we did!
Math Work
On Monday, one of our stations was using math manipulatives to make the shape of the different numbers. It was a great visual-spatial exercise while learning the shapes of the numbers.
Deputy Dial
Officer Dial joined us on Tuesday for a short presentation about safety in the school. Everyone in the class took a pledge to become Junior Deputies!
Alphabet Review
On Friday, each table was assigned a letter. Their job was to draw pictures and words that started with their table's letter, then cut it out and glue it onto their big letters. They did an AWESOME job and all of the letters got hung in the hall.
Looking Ahead
As I mentioned before, we will be continuing with our literacy and math stations this week. We will be delving deeper into the idea of the Readers, Writers, and Math workshops and focusing more on really getting the procedures in the classroom down. It will be a busy four days!
Reminders/Side Notes:
-On Friday, we will be doing a few American-themed activities in remembrance of 9/11.
-Our class could use some playground toys (balls, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, etc.), so if you have any gently used toys lying around, a donation would be greatly appreciated!
-A paper came home with your child on Friday regarding a basket raffle. Please take the time to check that out!
-As usual, let me know if you have any questions throughout the week.
I hope you've had a wonderful holiday weekend!
