SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)
The SHS SADD chapter challenged the Loogootee SADD chapter to a shootout. The Loogootee SADD chapter accepted the challenge and the shootout took place on Saturday night, February 18th during the half time of the varsity game. Eight students from each chapter lined and attempted to make as many free throw as possible. It was a back and forth point total but once the SHS chapter warmed up, they were on a roll and won the competition. The SADD chapters were delighted when each of their respective mayors agreed to participate. Team members that shot for SHS were: Seniors Energetic Isaac Englert and Bouncing Brayden Wibbeler, Juniors Amazing Morgan Stapleton and Lucky Louisa Nino, Sophomores Jumpin’ Jacob Hurt and Pumped Up Leandra Pund, and freshman Shootin’ Sam Schroeder and Ballin’ Brad Springer. Rebounding for the SADD team was Kendyl Mc Keough and Jack Michel.
Plans for March include a get together during lunch.
Freshman Mentors
The Freshman Mentors spent the month of February discussing the consequences of Alcohol use with the freshman. The Alcohol Bingo game discussed the facts of alcohol while the fatal vision goggle experience illustrated the level of impairment on the body’s vision and eye-hand coordination after consuming alcohol. Next up for the freshman homerooms is competition with trivia and dodgeball.
Class of 2018
Just a reminder to the juniors that there are two more SAT dates (May 6th and June 3rd) and two more ACT dates (April 6th and June 10th) remaining this school year. Juniors who plan to attend a four year college must take one of these tests. Admission to the college of your choice will not be considered until an SAT or ACT test result is sent to the college of your choice.
Juniors will begin submitting their applications to college once they return to school in August. Acceptance in to college is based on the rigor of the courses, gpa, class rank, standardized test score, (SAT or ACT) and involvement in extracurricular activities.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Fowler.
Girls State/Boys State
Juniors who are interested in attending either Girls or Boys State should see Mrs. Fowler by Friday, March 3. The American Legion in Holland is willing to pay for the cost of the week long experience.
The objectives of the camp are to develop leadership, promote interest in government, understand American tradition, and encourage community support.
