A Note from Mrs. Messer

Parent-teacher conferences are just around the corner! They will be held on Wednesday, March 30th from 4:00-8:00 PM and Thursday, March 31st from 8:00AM-4:00PM. Thank you to those of you who have scheduled a time! If you have not yet scheduled a conference, you will need to sign up using your family access account in Skyward. If you are having difficulty signing up, please let me know so that I may assist you. Conferences will again have student involvement. I look forward to meeting with you AND your child!

Have a great weekend!

BBN '15-'16 Week 21

Language Arts

Our study of Ezra Jack Keats continues as we will complete a few projects associated with some of the books we've read together. We'll explore a favorite art medium used by Mr. Keats for the illustrations in many of his books--collage! The students' artwork will be on display in our classroom for parent-teacher conferences.

In writing, we will turn our attention to another type of review next week-- a book review! We will be using many of the same elements we used in our previous reviews, but adding a few more.

Mathematics

You will find your child's Unit 6 math assessment and Unit 8 Parent Letter in his or her green folder tonight. (We will begin Unit 8, as we completed Unit 7 on geometry earlier in the year to coincide with STEM Day.) Please take some time to go through the Unit 8 Parent Letter as it contains important information upcoming skills. The focus will be on mental math, money and fractions.

Units

This week we kicked off our study of the great state of Minnesota! We started by creating a map of our state. We identified various points of interest and named the states that share our borders. We will continue to take a closer look at Minnesota by examining some architectural elements of our state capitol building. Do you know the significance of the gold leafed copper and steel quadriga on the roof of the building? Next week your student will!
