Happy Holidays!

I would like to take this time to thank all of you for your generosity and support throughout this first semester. I am so appreciative for the opportunity to be at The Wheatlands and working with so many wonderful students and families! I hope all of you have some time to relax and enjoy friends and family this holiday season. Wishing you all the best!

AT Math

All grades have finished Unit 3 in math and unless students were ill have all taken their unit assessments. After winter break, all grade levels will begin their Unit 4 Fractions study. There will be fun, hands on activities to help illustrate this often challenging topic for students. So, get a jump start by having your children help you adjust recipes this season and get some practice with fractions!

AT Reading/English Language Arts

3rd graders finished their study of The Green Book by Jill Paton Walsh. They really enjoyed this science fiction text! They completed their travel journals along with the discussion of this text. This week we have indulged in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillo. It is one of our all time favorites! Enjoy some reading together over the break!

4th graders completed their novel studies of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Bridge to Terabithia. I was very impressed with their discussions and heartfelt reactions to these texts. Some even have a new favorite book! After break, we will begin a study of biography with the reading of several texts in order to compare and contrast the elements of this genre from one to another.

5th graders have been working on their research for the Hero/Shero Project. The final posters are due January 6th. I have given them specific directions not to wait to tell you what they need for their posters on January 5th! :) They have a clear outline of requirements and have most of the research complete. It shouldn't take long to assemble the final poster.

As always...Keep reading, writing, thinking, and communicating!

5th GRADE AT Field Trip

We are excited to announce that the 5th grade AT students will once again have the opportunity to visit The Challenger Center for an out of this world field trip! We are scheduled to attend on February 6th. We will have several lessons related to the mission in the weeks prior to the trip. More specific information will follow after break.

Have a safe and happy holiday break! See you in. . .
