Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
Welcome to December!
With that being said, our weather has changed tremendously over the past few days. Please make sure to send your students to school with proper attire. Hats, gloves/mittens, jackets, snow pants, boots, are necessary. It would be a great idea to write the names of your students on their clothing, so if they get misplaced we have the ability to get items back to their owners. Our lost and found is regularly full- please come in and check to see if something belongs to you. If you need help with finding clothing for your child, please reach out to your teacher, myself, or Mrs. Maher.
Off my soapbox;)…this month we have a lot of amazing activities upcoming. Please see a list of school wide activities below:

Have a great holiday weekend!
West is…
Best,
Tony
Holiday Gift Shop
Please help us make our first Holiday Gift Shop a huge success by volunteering either the morning or afternoon on Friday, December 16. You would be helping student pick out the perfect gift for loved ones. Then using the money they bring, helping them with managing and counting their money. It will be a day filled with many excited students. You can sign up here if you are interested in volunteering for this unique experience.
*All volunteers must have a volunteer consent form on file. You can fill one out here.*
Check out what is happening in all the unified art classes. They have been busy!
Attendance
Student Absences
Just a reminder if your student is absent please email westoffice@nvps.net or call 616.361.3470 the day of the absence.
Student Tardy
Students are marked tardy if they arrive to class after the 8:15 bell. Please make sure to sign them in on the Chromebook located in our lobby if you drop off students after this time.
*If your student is attending an appointment of any kind please provide us with a doctor's note.
We are now at the point where truancy/attendance letters have begun being sent out and want to make sure we are working together to have your student in school as often as possible. Please know that this reporting it mandatory by the state of Michigan and is something we have to do.
Little Cats Night
Please come join the Northview Girls Softball Program on Saturday, December 10 from 6:00pm-9:00pm for a night of fun!
Please see the attached flier for more information about this exciting event for our K-6th Graders.
Nurse's Corner
- Please remember that you cannot send medicine to school with a student, regardless of it is OTC or prescription. A Northview permission form for medication at school must be filled out before office staff can give it to the student.
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.
