CHS Staff Bulletin
4/8/19
What a wet weekend!
For once the universe smiled and aligned the stars, or something like that. All weekend the rain came and made sure that everything was grey and wet. At the same time both of my kids were sick with head colds. While I am not excited that my kids were sick and the weather was lousy, at least it was lousy while they were sick.
We binge watched TV shows, made soup, took naps, worked in the garage, did wood working projects and generally just hung out. It was honesty good family time despite the runny noses and hacking, etc.
I hope that you stitched an awesome weekend together. It's early in the term so it is good to nestle in with the work load we have and the grand goals we have set for spring. Dig deep, maintain balance with work and life, and enjoy!

In The Know
Text Alerts for Overdue Books. Students can now receive overdue book notices by text alert. Students can sign up by texting the message @overdues to 81010. Message & data rates may apply. Unfortunately, this service is only available to students. However, parents may still receive occasional overdue notices by email.
Field Trip Fatigue - We need your help in planning field trips. There are many field trips that are hard to make arrangements for due to factors outside our control. That being said, there are field trips that have no factors outside our control. We want to honor the hard work that staff does to work with students in so many different ways. It is so important that all field trips are brought to Operations at least two weeks before the actual trip. The other factor is paying attention to how many field trips are happening at any one given time. The Fall and Spring are consistently bad each year. Please keep in consideration the impact that your field trip has on students who are testing AP, IB, etc.
Erin's Law - Over the month of April we will be having an advisory class on Fridays in order to present three distinct lessons on child abuse, sex trafficking, grooming, sexual predators, and healthy relationships. This is a new state law that we are coming into compliance with. Each lesson will be 45 minutes long and occur on Fridays, April 12, 19, & 26. There are many students across the district and county who have been impacted by abuse. It is important to us as educators that families and students are well aware of the impact that these lessons can have on students who have been victims of abuse. We want to make sure that if a student has had experience with abuse and is not comfortable being in the classroom we will have counselors on point and available to students to connect with. We want this information to be out early so that a student does not have to "out" themselves by leaving a classroom in the middle of the lesson. Students who do not feel comfortable going to these lessons because of their experience can connect with a counselor ahead of time and we will make arrangements to excuse them before the lesson occurs.
